    Before this date, computers were only found in a corporate setting or at early databases. With the introduction of the PC, technology was set on the right track to being accessible for students and their families. Today computers are at the forefront of education and in the work force.

    Wallace V. Jaffree
    United States Supreme Courts finds that Alabama statues allowing teacher led prayer in the classroom violates the First Amendment. This leads to more discussions of if religion should stay out of the classroom, including the debate of Creationism v. Evolution curriculum.

    University of Phoenix Online Campus
    University of Phoenix establishes the very first Online Campus, allowing students to earn Bachelors and Masters Degrees completely online. This allowed people from all walks of life and professional background to pursue a higher education. Today there are plenty online college program making a college career more achievable.

    Netscape becomes the first commercial web browser with Mozilla 1.0. It was free to the public and because of that it had the majority of web users in the mid 90s browsing the internet with their service. In the realm of education this free web browser allowed made information more accessible for students and for those fortunate enough to have a computer in their home.
  • Columbine Massacre

    Columbine Massacre
    The mass shooting in Columbine High School in Colorado was the largest school shooting to date- with 15 killed and 23 wounded. This led to a massive security override in schools, but this unfortunately did not stop mass school shootings to stop. Today there have been over 150 school shootings since this event.

    This act did a number of things for higher education including elevating educator accountability, making higher education funding more available for students from low-income backgrounds and increased graduate program funding.

    Quest to Learn is adopted by New York City schools as the first game-based education program for students, starting with a class of 6th graders. Hands-on, interactive learning has become one of the new teaching techniques by teachers to grab the attention of students and get them interested in learning again.

    At this point in time, the number of minority students surpassed the number of "Non-Hispanic Caucasians" in the United States.
    This means that more classrooms are culturally diverse, allowing for different educational backgrounds to intermingle and ultimately enrich the learning experience.

    On December 4th, 2014- the MSHSL adopts a policy allowing transgendered students to participate in female sports teams. Although it wasn't the first state to adopt a transgendered student policy, it was the first in the state which allowed inclusion for the students.
