Historical Education Timeline

  • Access to College

    Access to College
This is when land-grant colleges began to emerge. This started the practice of building state universities in every state, thus showing that education is important. This also showed that higher education is needed to provide quality teachers to teach future generations. This also made universities a bit more accesible to students around the country.
  • Child Study Movement

    Child Study Movement
This time period of studying the child's mind and their personalities put a jump start on the idea of teaching "the whole child". This study became influential in the psychology of education and how to teach the children on a more individual level. This is how schools today should operate and not on a whole class since all students are at different levels, even if they are in the same grade or the same age.
  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    Brown vs. Board of Education
This is a significant event because Ruby Bridges showed that every child has the right to the same education. This event paved the road for all children to learn about diversity and different backgrounds which is important to create a single, loving learning environment. This is extremely important in today's world with so many differing opinions, backgrounds, and views. This has helped our schools become more color-blind and equal.
  • All Handicapped Children Act

    All Handicapped Children Act
This act allowed handicapped children access to the same free, quality education of all other children. They were incorporated into mainstream classrooms where they can grow and learn alongside "normal' children. This act gives all children new ways to learn about each other and disabilities. The handicapped children can learn so much from their other classmates and should not be isolated from them.
  • Virtual Education

    Virtual Education
Virtual education is a major jump in education. This advancement brings education to a whole new level and reaches so many new people. This type of education helps those who do not function well in public schools, distant learning in college and less fortunate countries and better links to opportunities and resources.
