  • The National Assembly

    The National Assembly
    Two events that occurred withing the National Assembly was the Storming of the Bastille which occurred on July 14, 1789. This was a riot in Paris where a mob storm the Bastille. Furthermore, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen (which was adopted by the National Assembly on August 27, 1789), included enlightenment ideas that the National Assembly used.

  • The Legislative Assembly

    The Legislative Assembly
    Two key events during the Legislative Assembly included the development of a Constitutional Monarchy which was established in 1791, which made Louis XVI the head of state. Another even was the war with Austria that was declared in April 1792. This was ultimately started by the Girondins who were the "dominant factor", they were headed Jacques Brissot.

    The National Convention
    The Committee of Public Safety was created on April 6, 1793 and the purpose was to cease an internal rebellion. Another event was the Reign of Terror which occurred from July 1793-1794. This was when public execution was popular, for example, Marie Antoinette was executed.

  • The Directory

    The Directory
    The Directory was a government of widespread corruption. Within the government, a bicameral legislature known as, "Corps Législatif" which was in use from 1795 to 1814. The legislative powers were enjoyable at first but as time progressed it was found to be a slow process. The Council of Five Hundred was also established and governed from 1795 to 1799. It was the lower house and it consisted 500 delegates that were charged with initiating legislation which was either approved or disapproved.
