    Two-Track Educational System
    In 1176, Thomas Jefferson, proposed an educational plan that was a two-track plan. The two planes were labor and the learned. The purpose was to help the laboring families who at the time did not have sufficient money to send those to school get a scholarship allowing them to go to school.
  • Free Education but....

    In 1790 in the state of Pennsylvania the State Constitution allows free public education for students. That came with some what of a catch if the students were poor they were allowed the free public education. The rich students and families had to continue to pay for their public education.
  • Department of Education

    Department of Education
    In Pennsylvania the governor at the time George Wolf created the Department of Education and signed the Free Schools Act which created school districts that were regulated by the state. The Department of Education was in place to oversee the schools and any education issues that were to occur.
  • Plessy V. Ferguson

    Plessy V. Ferguson
    The Plessy v. Ferguson case was in Louisiana in 1896 this case was taken all the way up to the Supreme Court. Homer Plessy was a man that was 1/8th black. The train company he worked at said there was someone sitting in wrong car. Plessy refused to move from White Car and was arrested and convicted for breaking Louisiana's segregation law. He was denied equal protection under law.

    Brown V The Board of Education
    From December 1952 to May 17th, 1954 the Supreme Court case of Brown v The Board of Education began with a parent by the name of Oliver Brown sued the Board of Education because of the separation of whites and blacks. This went all the way up to the Supreme Court and made an important impact on education.

    Title IX
    Title IX is a civil right that they are not to be discriminated because of their sex in education. This right states that "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." This protects them and makes sure everyone is allowed the same treatment. This also allows them to receive financial help if needed.

    Education of all Handicapped Children Act
    In 1975 a public law was put in place in order to protect the rights and meeting needs of students who fall under the category. This positively impacted families and made sure that they ensure that special education services are available to children who need them guaranteed decisions about services to students with disabilities are fair and appropriate established specific requirements for special education and provided federal funds to help the states educate students with disabilities.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    Nine African American students go to enroll Central High where it is an all-white school. Despite that the nine students were going to go enroll many did not like that in fact Governor Orval Faubus sent the National Guard to physically prevent the students from enrolling. These nine kids fought for their education even though they were not wanted at the school they fought and made sure without violence that some change happened. The nine students were persistent and made an impact in education.
  • Pyler V. Doe

    Pyler V. Doe
    Pyler v. Doe was an important case for undocumented students. The intent was to deny funding for undocumented students and have them pay tuition for the lack of state funding. The court determined that was not going to happen because of the situation of these students. To make sure students had the right to an education public education was free from K-12th grade. If they were to continue their education tuition fees for college and universities would still be placed.
