After eight years of marriage, Steve (age 32) and his wife have their first child Lily. Erikson's seventh stage, generativity versus stagnation, focuses on giving parent care towards children and others. Those people who focus on themselves rather than others end up in a stage of stagnation. -
The Death of Steve: Ego Integrity versus Despair
Steve passes away at the age of 63, due to a heart attack, but he is surrounded by his whole family. When he reflects on his life, he has little regrets. In Erikson's eighth stage of ego integrity versus despair, people in this stage look back into what they have experienced in life and decide whether or not the life they had lived was good.
