    Representatives of organizations actively involved in emergency medical service attend the first meeting of the Task Force on creating a National Registry of EMT's.
  • National Registry Founded

    Task Force becomes the Board of Directors of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. This is still the same body to certify EMT's and Paramedics.
  • Test Time!

    The first basic NREMT exam (in 1971, exact date not available). It is the beginning of National Board Certification for the nation's Emergency Medical Technicians.

    The TV show Emergency! premieres. Its two main characters are Johnny Gage and Roy DeSoto, among the first group of paramedics in Los Angeles County. The popularity of the show increases demand for paramedic training across the country.
