The National Education Association or NEA establish new standards of curriculum for high school students in 1893 for those who wanted to go to college.This is significant as they offered more areas of study for all students no matter what they were planning on doing with their lives. -
Brown v. Board of Education
This landmark case really paved the way for the integration of all people not only in the school setting but as a greater society. While it did not seem to help in the southern states for quite a few years, it brought to light the unequal education that the children in the segregated schools were receiving. -
Education for All Handicapped Children Act
This Act is significant as it gave children, who were considered disabled, the ability to get free and suitable education, individualized education plans, other educational serves both educational and other related services. Children with disabilities had more options for their education. -
The Common Core State Standards
Common Core State standards were made to help create a foundation of what all students should learn in subjects such as English and Math.This is important as it provided a guide for students and what is recommended for college and for whatever they do afterward. Without these standards there would be a large gap in knowledge throughout different school districts.
