    Magna Carta

    John raised taxes and squeezed money out of people. He was then forced to sign a document, the Magna Carta. This guaranteed basic political rights and limited the power King John had.

    The Model Parliament

    This was a group of people that made laws for the nation and was very powerful. The Model Parliament was used to weaken the great lords.
  • English Civil War (1642 - 1649)

    A fight between the Cavaliers, people who were on Charles' side, and the Puritan supporters of Parliament.
  • Cromwell's Rule (1649 - 1653)

    The abolishment of the monarchy and the House of Lords, and the establishment of a commonwealth.
