    The Constitution stated that the runner-up in the presidential election would become the vice president. This system almost caused a constitutional crisis when Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr received the same number of electoral votes. The 12th Amendment declared that electors vote separately , for The president and vice president.

    States that neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, unless a punishment for crime, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
  • 15th amendment

    The right of citizens in the U.S to vote, shall not be denied or abridged by the U.S or by any State on account of race, color, or a previous condition of servitude.
  • 16th amendment

    Passage of the 16th Amendment in 1913, gave the government the power to collect income tax. This change reversed the prohibition of “direct tax9 from Article 1 of the constitution.
