    Iron Curtain Speech
    Winston Churchill gave a speech at Westminster College because he was afraid that the Soviets would take over Eastern Europe. The "iron curtain" was the separation of democratic Western Europe and Communist Eastern Europe.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    Was a U.S. policy to contain communism in Europe and other countries during the Cold War announced by the 33rd President of the United States Harry Truman. Truman wanted to help other countries to prevent them from being communist, mainly Turkey and Greece.

    Marshall Plan
    George Marshall from the U.S. had a plan to help Western European countries at the end of World War II.It was expensive ($100 billion dollars), but the United States eventually made that money back from the products they sold to the Western European countries. It was mainly to prevent the spreading of communism.

    During World War II, the Soviets blocked off all railways, roads and canals of Berlin so no supplies could get in Berlin, but the only way they could get supplies were planes flying in by the Soviets. They did this so the people of Berlin could do what the Allies told them to do.

    The Western Allies had a plan called the Berlin Airlift and what its goal was was to get planes to bring in supplies to Berlin and that is the only way how the people of Berlin could get their basic necessities.

    Military alliance between 29 North American and European countries. It was an agreement that if any non-NATO country attacks one of them, the other countries must help if it is required.

    The Chinese made a group called the Chinese Communist Party which was the founding and ruling political party of the People's republic of China. It eventually became the sole governing party within China. It was to make China a better country, but it eventually was in terrible shape.

    The Korean War started because 75,000 soldiers from North Korea crossed the boundary into South Korea territory. Eventually, America joined the war on South Korea's behalf in July. A combined total of 5 million civilians and soldiers died in the war.

    Was a war between North and South Vietnam, but the North was supported by communist countries and South was supported by anti-communist countries. North Vietnam won the war and forced South Vietnam to become communist.

    Was a nationwide revolution on the Hungarian People's Republic and it's Soviet like policies. It was a student protest at first, but it eventually became a problem within the whole country.

    The first artificial Earth satellite released into space by the Soviet Union. This was what basically started the space race between the Soviet Union and the United States.

    An economic and social campaign by the Communist Party of China. Its goal was to make the country from an agrarian economy into a socialist society through rapid industrialization and collectivization. It failed and one aspect was the lack of food which caused millions of people to die.

    The objective of landing a man on the moon and bringing him back safely to Earth. It was the third United States human spaceflight program by NASA. It cost the United States $112 billion dollars to complete this mission because of the amount of failed attempts and problems they had.

    The Soviets put the missiles because they wanted to protect Cuba from an invasion of the U.S., but they eventually came together and the United States said they wouldn't invade Cuba if the Soviets removed the missiles which is what they did.
