  • The Berlin Blockade and Airlfift

    The Berlin Blockade and Airlfift
    In June, 1948, the Soviets created a blockade in West Berlin in hopes the West would leave. West Berlin started the Berlin airlift which put an end to the blockade in May 1949.

    The Soviets and the U.S. were in a race to develop powerful nuclear weapons. The Soviets had made a big advantage by launching a satellite, which cause the U.S to create NASA.
  • Bay of Pigs invasion

    1,5000 trained Cubans came ashore at Cuba's Bay of Pigs. The goal of this was to start and uprising against Cuba's communist leader Castro.
  • Cuban missile crisis

    There was confrontation between the U.S and the Soviets over nuclear missiles found installed in Cuba. 2 weeks later, the Soviets removed the missiles and the U.S removed their missiles from Turkey.

    The U.S made a treaty with the Soviets to allow each other the right to fly over each other's territory. This would allow them to gather info about each other so neither of them were assuming the worst about what could be happening.
