The buffer states were places around the USSR where communism was practiced. They began after WWII when the Soviet army liberated and occupied the countries. Non-communist party's were removed from the states causing the Soviets influence to increase. -

The crisis began when the Israeli forces along with the UK and France invaded the Suez Canal in Egypt. The countries invaded the canal because the Egyptian president planned to nationalise the canal. -

During this event people in Hungary tried to rebel against the imposed policies by the Hungarian People's Republic. The Soviets eventually regained control and detained and killed many people who were involved with the rebellion. -

During this time the Soviet forces invaded Afghanistan to help fight the anticommunist guerrillas. The general population at this time was against communism so the soviets controlled the population with force. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
The fall of the wall was a major event as it symbolized that the tensions during the cold war were lessening. The wall was used to separate east and west Berlin. East Berlin didn't like the west because they weren't communist.
