Cold War

  • Berlin Blockade

    Berlin Blockade
The Soviet Union didn't want the Allies in their part of Berlin Germany so they built a huge wall cutting off food and medical supplies from their part of Berlin. The allies then airdropped 2.3 million tons of supplies into the Soviet Unions part of Berlin to help the innocent civilians. This is the 9th most important event because this is what sparked the cold war.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
75,000 North Korean soldiers invaded the 38th parallel which was the border of north and south korea. By July, the US had entered the war on South Korea's side and it ended with the North Koreans getting pushed out of South Korea. I believe this was the second most important event to happen in the Cold War.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
The US pitied the communist government of North Vietnam and the US helped its ally, South Vietnam. Citizens of the US were drafted to go fight in this war, however, citizens were outraged from other people draft dodging or paying to get out of the war. I believe that this was the most important event that happened in the Cold War
  • Space race

    Space race
All of the countries wanted to prove their technological and superiority over the others and because of this they had a race to the moon and to put different satellites in space for weapons and intel. This is ranked 8th because it permanently changed all of human history and exploration
  • Suez Canal Crisis

    Suez Canal Crisis
Israeli armed forces pushed into egypt towards the Suez Canal, which transported 2/3 of the oil used in all of Europe. After the president of Egypt made the canal public, Israel withdrew their troops. This is the 6th most important event that happened because it almost caused nuclear warfare between the US and the Soviet Union because they were supplying Egypt.
  • U-2 incident

    U-2 incident
This was the shooting down of a US reconnaissance plane over the Soviet Union and the Soviet Union claimed it to be an aggressive attack from the US so they shot the plane down. This was the 11th most important thing to happen as only a spy plane was lost.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
The US put missiles in Turkey, which is very close to Russia. The Soviet Union didn't like this so they put missiles in Cuba, which is very close to the US. The Soviet Union refused to take the nukes out of Cuba until the US took their nukes out of Turkey. This is the 4th most important event because it almost caused nuclear warfare.
  • Yom Kippur War

    Yom Kippur War
Egypt and Syria both attacked Israel at the same time on 2 fronts and Israel was quickly running out of supplies for the war so they asked the US for help but when we learned the Soviet Union was supplying Egypt we quickly withdrew. This is the 7th most important event because this raised tensions between the US and the Soviet Union.
  • Soviet war in Afghanistan

    Soviet war in Afghanistan
The Soviet Union air dropped elite troops into principal Afghanistan cities and soon after they deployed motorized vehicles on the border. Within days the KGB got to the president and his ministers and killed them all. I believe this is the 3rd most important event because the US was giving Afghanistan financial support and only 20 years after this 9/11 happened with someone that was receiving aid from the US.
  • Flight 007

    Flight 007
An airplane that took off from Anchorage Alaska strayed over 200 miles off course and entered soviet airspace, the soviets claimed it was a US spy plane and shot it down killing all 200 passengers on board. I believe this is the 10th most important event because it killed people just not nuclear warfare.
  • "Able Archer Military Exercise"

    "Able Archer Military Exercise"
A war game that realistically modeled a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union. However, the Soviet Union found out about this and armed their nukes at the US. This is the 5th most important event because it also almost caused all out nuclear warfare.
