Formation of United Nations
Forming of the United Nations was important during the Cold War Era because even though the war ended but relationship between Soviet Union and USA wasn't good. Soviet Union wanted to spread communism through Europe and USA wanted freedom and Democracy. United Nations were formed to prevent another World War it was to keep the world secure if Soviet Union started to take somebody over. All the countries in the United Nations would prevent that. -
Use of policy of Containment
Containment was a United States policy using numerous strategies to prevent the spread of communism abroad. A component of the Cold War, this policy was a response to a series of moves by the Soviet Union to enlarge its communist sphere of influence in Eastern Europe, China, Korea, and Vietnam. -
Truman Doctrine
This was important because it was a policy announced by President Harry Truman if any country is to be invaded by the USSR then USA would send aid to the country, to help them fight them off. -
Creation of the state of Israel
This was a significant event because it was a place for the Jewish population after WWII ended and America was sending workers to help them built. For the USSR it was another territory that they wanted to take over, the thought and they could be allies with them and start to spread communism to the middle East. -
Marshall Plan
This was important because the Marshall plan was 13 billion dollars sent to Europe from USA to rebuild and stabilize. This wasn't good for the Soviets because they wanted other countries coming to them and asking for help , but instead USA was helping everybody. This got the Soviet mad. -
Berlin Airlift
Berlin Airlift was significant because USA airlifted aid and to East Berlin to show them how good it is to live in a Democratic country. -
NATO formed
NATO's primary purpose was to unify and strengthen the Western Allies' military response to a possible invasion of western Europe by the Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact allies. -
Korean War
It was the war between South (democratic) and North (communist) Korea. This was important because South was aided by USA and North was aided by the Communist. This wasn't a war directly between them but it was still a war. -
Warsaw Pact
This was just a response to the formation of NATO, communist just wanted to be prepared if the NATO countries would attack them, they would have allies too. -
Vietnam War
This was the same thing as the Korean War. It was the War between USA and Communists , but the didn't fight directly they just aided each other side. -
Berlin Wall is built
This was important because the Wall was built in Berlin to separate the communist side vs the democracy. This increased tension because each sided wanted to show that they were better, so they had to separate between each other so people think there is no better life. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
This was an important event because basically if the missile from USSR got to Cuba and they launched them at USA, this would have started the World War again. USA got to the Cuban borders and said if they get to Cuba we will take them down. -
Camp David Accords
Agreement signed between Egyptians and Jews that they will not attack each other, so neither Communist or the USA will have to get into the war. -
Implementation of Perestroika and Glasnost
This is important because during that time USSR was rebuilding and they were more open, they didn't hide what they were going to do. Some countries became a free state of their own, this decreased tension between USA and USSR. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
This was the ending of the Cold war this is important because it decreased tension between the 2 leading powers Berlin wasn't divided anymore. Everything was falling back into its place, becoming democratic. -
Soviet Union Dissolves
This is important because this was the end of the Cold War the USSR didn't exist anymore, the Cold War was officially over between the 2 power countries, then it was only 1 because the other one dissolved.
