    The Presidential Commission on the Status of Women was created by John F. Kennedy. It was created to help solve the civil issues women face.

    Over 200,000 people gathered in D.C. for the March. It was led by Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964 is signed into law

    Lyndon Johnson signed the most detailed civil rights law at the time. It prohibits segregation illegal in public areas.

    Malcolm X was shot at one of his rallies in New York City. He was shot by Nation of Islam members.

    The act was passed partly in response to a police brutality incident at a civil rights march in Alabama. The act prevents the use pf literacy tests.

    The National Organization for Women was founded by Muriel Fox. The organization helped to push equal rights for women.
  • Black Panther Party was Created

    The Black Panther Party was created by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale. It was a high point for the Black Power Movement.

    The Bilingual Education Act helped students who could not speak English. It was under Title VII of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
