    Illegal segregation in public schools
    The supreme court decided to Legalize segregation in public schools for African Americans and the whites to be together. This came with anger and protest as many black students where greeted with a screaming mob of people wanted them out of the school. This would further continue with violence and anger for the next few years.
  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks
    Rosa parks was just a regular person who needed to ride the bus to go home after her job and sat in the correct section of the bus (because of segregation laws) but when a white man couldn't find a seat in his section he went to Rosa and asked her to move. Rosa, knowing the rights she should have, decided not to move and in doing so got arrested. Her being arrested caused outrage with a lot of people and Rosa became "the mother of the modern day civil rights movement."
  • Freedom rides

    Freedom rides
    The people known as the freedom riders were known for riding on bus with blacks and whites in the same seat which at the time was against the law. The did this to show that there are untied in many ways. They tried to show that the color of your skin doesn't matter. The freedom riders just wanted to express there voice through actions. It would help to get rid of discrimination today.
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    The March on Washington was protest held to try and create a better image for the black's in America. It was a event were people gathered and cheered as political leaders said speeches and fought for equal rights in America. The most famous of these speeches was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's "I have a dream" speech. It was the very last speech and inspired many around the world to help make his dream of equal rights a reality.

    The civil rights act was an attempt to end discrimination within America. The law was made to give all people of any color,religion, or where there are from equal rights with there peers. It is often The most important law since the Reconstruction and has helped to get rid of the hate-rid to those how have nothing wrong.
  • Freedom Schools

    In the summer of 1964 "Freedom Schools" were made to try and teach about black and white history together. They also tried to teach leadership and how to do the right thing in the world. It was a place were people of any color could go and learn. When 3 volunteers were killed it made nation headlines and brought awareness to the matter.
  • Black Arts movement

    Black Arts movement
    The black Arts movement was a period were African america art was gaining popularity while showing the pain and struggle that the blacks were going through. These movement would create racially separate publishing houses, theater troupes, and study groups and would also help pave the way for the future of the blacks.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Bloody Sunday happened when a peaceful protest turned violent. 600 people were marching in Alabama for the death of a black civil rights activist in the hands of a white police officer. People were very mad and this violent protest kept going on until they went to Edmund Pettus Bridge. Cops than were forced to use tear gas and sent people to the hospital.

    Voting Rights Act
    The Voting Rights Act was to give the African Americans the right to vote. They didn't have the right because the African Americans at the time were hated just because the were born with different skin. The act is often called the most far-reaching act in in the civil rights legislation in u.s history. This showed that America does think that the African Americas are people too and we are trying to show them equal respect
  • Black Panther Party

    Black Panther Party
    The Black Panther Party is a political group that fights for the protection of African Americans. In 1966 people feared that because the whites hated the blacks that the whites would attack and kill them to keep american how the want it. The Black Panther Party helped to protect the African Americans by fighting for the right of them to carry fire arms and use self defense when they need it. They also fought that African Americans should be treated with the same respect that the whites get.
