  • Southern Christian leadership Conference Established

    Martin Luther King Jr establishes the SCLC a movement which would later peacefully march on Washington, he is instated as president and the group is built on the policies of nonviolence and civil disobedience

    The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, the March on Washington, or The Great March on Washington was a major step in displaying the new scale of unity among African Americans. it was a wide scale display that no longer would the black man bow to the white and it was accomplished without the need or want for violence

Chaney (Black),Andrew Goodman (White) & Michael Schwerner (White) are discovered at the bottom of a damn, ending a 6 week police search. it is alleged that the trio were arrested whilst investigating the case of a burnt black church, they were then released into the hands of the kkk who executed them. this event sparked reforms among the white society and saw white men tried on civil rights violations for the first time since the laws introduction

    On this day in 1965 civil rights leader and founder of the OAAU (organisation of Afro American Unity) is murdered by Nation of Islam members while speaking at a rally of his organisation in New York City. this is significant as Malcolm x represent not only the civil rights movement but its darker side, he was antagonistic when compared to his peaceful counterpart Martin Luther king jnr and will forever be remembered as a leader (although questionable at times)
