Chinese Events that Influenced Literature Timeline

  • Period: 1600 BCE to 1050 BCE

    Calligraphy

    Calligraphy was created during the Shang dynasty. Calligraphy changed the different ways of telling a story. With 1000 different characters, it gave authors of literature many different ways to tell a story.
  • Period: 730 BCE to 770 BCE

    Prosperity in T'ang dynasty

    During the T'ang dynasty Li Po and Tu Fu wrote some of China's most well known poetry. Li Po often wrote about spirit Journeys. Tu Fu's poetry as based off of Confucianism
  • Period: 213 BCE to 213 BCE

    Buddhism

    Buddhism was for those who strived for a true insight on life. Different ideas for literature were created due to this new way of life. Many people changed their perspective on life after reading about Buddhism.

    Paper invention

    Paper was invented by the ancient Chinese. The invention of paper led to the creation of books. Paper is now used in our daily lives. The books created were literary.

    Pan Chao's, Lessons for Women

    Lessons for Women played a big role in women conduct. Many women read her work and felt wiser. She also influenced more women to write.

    Rebellions and Invasions During Chou Dynasty

    The Book of Odes was created due to war. Ancient Chinese poets wrote war poems in this book. 305 works of poem are included.
  • Period: 82 to 92

    Panku

    Pan Ku published the History of the Former Han. This book covered what was from the first emperor. Pan Ku influenced literature by writing about the third dynasty
  • Period: 960 to 1279

    Sung Dynasty

    The Sung dynasty played a big role in influencing literature. Poems about the body were made, due to the human anatomy being examined by the ancient Chinese.
