    Both the north and the south faced economic problems after the war and they had to come together with peace

    The nation was in grief after president Lincoln was assasinated.
  • Freedman's Bureau

    The Freedmen's Bureau was a bill that was passed to support freed african americans and give them clothes and food.
  • Share Cropping

    Freedmen were given land and tools and a piece of land, but they had to give some of their profits to the landowner, so it was a lot like slavery.
  • The Rise of the Radicals

    There were more radicals in the U.S. who wanted to break the power of wealthy farmers and ensure that freedmen had the right to vote.

    In 1866, Andrew johnson became president and passed the 13th amendment.

    The Klu Klux Klan was created to threaten blacks and keep them from doing things like voting

    President Johnson was one of the worst presidents to ever live. He vetoed the 13th amendment and the veto was overruled for the only time ever. He was very racist.

    The 15th Amendment allowed all men to vote regardless of their race.

    Many people who helped the south had to stop worrying about the south because they had to focus on their own money in the North.

    Rutherford B. Hayes ended reconstruction because it was too expensive, and he kicked these problems to the 1960s
