Cell Theory Timeline

  • Hooke Cell Theory

    Hooke Cell Theory
Hooke was the first person to discover the cell and was the first person to observe the different qualities of the cell. Hooke was observing dead tissue when he came across the cell. He made the first model of the cell which paved the way for other scientist.
  • Leeuwenhoek Cell Theory

    Leeuwenhoek Cell Theory
Leeuwenhoek was the first to discover protozoa and bacteria. He was looking at pond water when he made his discovery. His model show how the cell progressed from Hooke's model.
  • Brown Cell Theory

    Brown Cell Theory
Brown discovered the nucleus of a plant cell. He was observing a piece of plant tissue and found the nucleus of the plant cell. His model show the nucleus as a main part of a cell.
  • Schleiden Cell Theory

    Schleiden Cell Theory
Schleiden found that all plants are composed of cells and that cells are the building blocks for the plants. He came across this when he was looking at plant tissue under a microscope and found cells. His model introduced the plant cell.
  • Schwann Cell Theory

    Schwann Cell Theory
Schwann discovered that not only did plants have cells but so did animals. He was observing some animal tissue and he ran across the animal cell. His model introduced a new kind of cell.
  • Virchow Cell Theory

    Virchow Cell Theory
Virchow discovered that all cells develop from other existing cells and that diseased cells come from healthy cells. He found this when he was observing the behavior of cells. His model shows how the cells form.
