    Emperor Constantine I Founded the Byzantine Capital
    Constantinope was founded by a Roman Emperor named Constantine, thus the cities name. Constantinople came to be known as the center of Greek and Christian ideals. Christianity advanced whilst Constantinople stood. It was the biggest city and was also very wealthy. Constantinople was taken over around 800 years after its beginning.

    General Belisarius Military Campaigns
    The Battle of Dara, Belisarus's first battle, was started by Kavadh, the emperor of Persia. Kavadh, wanted to adopt Justin as a son but he denied along with his nephew, who was Justanian I. Justanian had sent Sittas and Belisarius to Persia but were defeated. The battle lasted a year and Belisaurs sent troops until Persia was defeated

    Due to rebellion in Constantinople, Byzantine, many riots took place. The Nika Riot being one of the most violent ones in the cities history. Thousands were killed and about half the city was burned and destroyed.

    Hagia Sophia Completed

    Hagia Sophia Completed
    Hagia Sophia meaning "Holy Wisdom" is now a museum. This building is said to have changed architecture history due to its dome and it being the biggest cathedral for a long time. It was used as a Christian church, then a Roman Catholic Cathedral after the Fourth Crusaders, it then re-opened as a museum on February 1st 1935.

    Emperor basil II was part of the Macedonian dynasty. The Bulgarian resistance, led by the Bulgarian empire fell under the Byzantine rule in 1018. He took his army of 30,000 men but worried they would not be loyal. He brought them back but were ambushed and defeated but the next time he attacked and gave in to basil II rule

    The schism, or split, of western and eastern Christianity. The two churches permanently split apart, due to different believes and many contraversies. They came to be known as the Roman Catholic Church in the west and the Byzantine Church as the Eastern Orthodox Church.

    Emperor Alexios I Contacts Pope Urban II for Military Help in Middle East
    Alexios wanted to get people to go against Muslims so he contacted the Urban Pope II to help him. Urban Pope II did help by giving a speech to the Christians telling them to go against Muslims. The first crusade ended in 1099 when Alexios needed people for protection from the invasion by Selijuk Turks and continued to send military to capture the holy land in Jerusalem to free western Christians.

    Winning back the holy city Jerusalem was the ultimate goal for Christians. They asked for help from Venice, who would help with one condition: more exportation. The Crusaders attacked Constantinople when they couldn't make it to Egypt. Muslims left when the crusaders won the fourth crusade.

    Constantinope had been a stable city. It had been one of the biggest and wealthiest cities. There were many attacks on Constantinople but yet they stood strong. Mehmed, who was 21 years old at the time, and leader of the Ottomans defeated Constantinople and took over.
