Lexington and Concord
The British marched through Lexington on their way to Concord to capture a large collection of Patriot weapons. The British were defeated and the Patriots kept their weapons safe. -
Fort Ticonderoga
Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys capture a collection of British weapons. The Patriots were glad to acquire more weapons for their cause. -
Battle of Bunker HIll (1st time)
The British and Patriots wanted to control the harbor of Boston. The Patriots fought the British (at Breed's Hill) but ran out of ammunition. The had to retreat and the British won. -
Brooklyn
The British tried to trap the Patriots in Brooklyn. Washington and his troops waited until nightfall and retreated from Brooklyn. This was the first major victory for the British. -
Trenton
On Christmas night, George Washington crossed the Delaware River and captured 900 German Hessians. This was a surprise victory for the Patriots! -
Princeton
After Washington's surprise attack at Trenton, the Patriiot troops headed to Princeton. The Patriots drove the British out of New Jersey. The Patriots were gaining confidence. -
Saratoga
British troops planned a three way attack at Saratoga. Due to miscommunication, the British were not able to coordinate their plans effectively. The Patriots beat the British and convinced the French to join the Patriot side. -
Monmouth
The British and Patriots fought throughout the intense heat of the day. Molly Pitcher helped by bringing water, caring for injured troops and even operated the cannon to help Patriot troops. Both sides fought long and hard. That evening under the disguise of darkness the British troops slipped away. -
Fighting at Sea-Bonham Richard (John Paul Jones)
The Patriots also fought at sea. It was a difficult challenge to keep the British ships from bringing fresh troops and supplies. Many people are familiar with John Paul Jones and his ship the Bohham Richard. He is famous for yelling, "I have not yet begun to Fight"! -
Yorktown
This was the last major battle of the Revolutionary War. Cornwallis surrended to General George Washington.
