  • 1948 War

    1948 War
    Israel declared independence. Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq attacked Israel. In the end, Isreal gained land. Egypt gained the Gaza Strip and Jordan gained the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Jews became refugees.
  • Six Day War

    Six Day War
    Egypt blockaded Israel. Egypt, Jordan Syris & Iraq moved troops to Israel's borders and began threatening Israel. Israel launched to preemptive strike. Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the Golan Heights, the Gaza strip, and Sinai Peninsula. Terrorism began more common. More Jews and Palestinians became refugees. Ended on June 10 1967.
  • Settlement Construction Begins

    Settlement Construction Begins
    Israel government approved the building of settlements in the Sinai, Gaza, and the West Bank. Overtime the number of settlements increased. There are now roughly 300,000 west settlers.
  • Attrition Battles

    (From July 1st 1967 to August 8th 1970) Israel gained land from Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Arab nations met and delacred unwillingness ot make peace with Israel and Egypt began attacks. By the time the battles were over, many civilian and militant lives were lost, and the PLO moved its base of operations to Lebanon.
  • The October War or Yom Kippur War

    (October 6th, 1973 to October 25th, 1973) Egypt and Syria attacked Israel on Yom Kippur. After the war, Israel retained the territories captured in 1967, but did not keep additional land.
  • Egypt and Israel Sign a Peace Agreement

    Egypt and Israel Sign a Peace Agreement
    Egypt became the first Arab country to recognize Israel and to enter a peace treaty with them. This agreement became a model for Israel's "Land for Peace" policy.
  • The 1982 Lebanon War

    The 1982 Lebanon War
    The PLO units in Southern Lebanon increasingly attacked communities in Northern Israel. Israel withdrew from most of Lebanon. Renewed terrorist attacks from Southern Lebanon led to the Second Lebanon War in 2006.
  • The First Intifada

    (December 9th, 1987 to September 13th, 1993) Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank engaged in an uprising against Israel control of these territories. In result, Israeli and Palestinian troops died in an equal number and the conflict continued until the Oslo Accords were signed in 1993.

    A set agreements that began in 1993, following The First Intifada. Israel signed and the PLO signed a Declaration of Principles. This led to the creation of the Palestinian Authority.
  • Israel and Jordan Sign a Peace Treaty

    Israel and Jordan Sign a Peace Treaty
    A treaty between Egypt Israel which granted Jordan restoration of its occupied land, as well as an equal share of water supply. The treaty clearly defined Jordan's borders. In result of the treaty, Jordan became the second country to recognize Israel as a country. Trade, tourism, and business relations increased between the two states.
  • The Camp David Summit

    (July 11th, 2000 to July 24th, 2000) The first major attempt to negotiate an agreement between Israel and Palestinians secretly. The intentions were to negotiate a final settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict according to the Oslo Accords in 1993. They were unable to come to an agreement, as Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat refused the deal, no counter proposals were made, and the conflict continued with a large wave of angry Palestinians surrounding Israel.
  • The Second Intifada

    The Second Intifada
    (September 28th, 2000 - Ongoing) Israeli general visited the Jewish temple, which caused a riot. This then began a pretext for violence. Hundreds of civilians were killed by suicide bombers. This was the result of failed peace and there was no end to the fight.
  • Arab Peace Initiative is Proposed

    Arab Peace Initiative is Proposed
    The Prince of Saudi Arabia proposes peace. This was the first time the Arab league sent an official delegate to Israel. Israel was welcoming of the proposal but declined some demands; and although offered peace, Israel just withdraws from all territories from the 1967 War.
  • Israel Begins Constructing the West Bank

    (September, 2002 - Ongoing) Israeli decided to create a security barrier to separate terrorists from civilians; Similar to a security fence. The fence was effective in decreasing suicide bombings, and also separated Palestinians from entering their land. Some people claim the fence is only temporary.
  • The Road Map for Peace is Proposed

    The Road Map for Peace is Proposed
    A plan proposed by the Quartet that involves reciprocal steps by Israel Palestinians to solve the conflict. It called for an independent Palestinian state, living side by side with Israel. It was divided into three steps but never progressed. The proposal has yet to significantly progress.
  • Israel Disengages from Gaza

    Israel Disengages from Gaza
    On the year 2005 on the month of August, Israel and Palestine made a physical separation from each other. The prime Minister Areil moved the policy of Disengagement. Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip when the policy of Disengagement came into action. It didn't require the removal of all West Bank from Israel. The plan was criticized and the number of rockets fired from the terrorists from the Gaza Strip into Israel increased. It was plan was completed by September 2005.
  • Hamas Is Elected

    Palestinians elected a majority of Hamas' members. Hamas has been calling for the destruction of Israel and along with Israel the deaths of Jews. Hamas claimed responsibilities for the terrorist attacks and the sanctions would be lifted once Hamas recognized Israel's right to exist. The aid of the Palestinian authority has been suspended from the Western nations and the Western nations imposed sanctions.
  • The 2006 Lebanon War

    The 2006 Lebanon War
    Hezbollah is a radical Islamist organization that is committed to destroying Israel.The organization crossed the borders and attacked the Israeli army and used the civilians near them as body shields while attacking the Israeli army. This resulted in the loss of civilian lives from both sides and Israel damaged Lebanon's transportation. Israel suffered property damaged from the organization. The war ended when the UN Cease Fire Resolution 1701 passed on August 11, 2006.
  • The Battle of Gaza

    June 2007 Hamas militants attacked Fatah members throughout the Gaza. There are two Palestinian governments, Hamas controls the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian Authority controls the West area. Western sanctions were lifted to the Palestinian Authority once the Hamas government dissolved. On June 15, 2007 is when the Battle of Gaza ended.
  • The Gaza War

    Israel attacked Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, in an attempt to stop rocket attacks on Southern Israel. As well as, an attempt to disrupt weapon smuggling along with terrorist infrastructure. Hundreds of militants were killed. There was also civilian casualties because Hamas was based in urban areas. Gaza's economy and buildings were heavily damaged. It ended on January 8, 2009.

    Israel + Egypt began a blockade of Gaza and required all goods to be inspected before entering Gaza. Six ships refused their ship to be searched. Then the Israeli commandos entered the ship and were attacked with iron bar and knives. 9 Turkish activists were killed. Turkey demands an apology from Israel but Israel felt that its actions were justified. Israel didn't apologize therefore Israel and Turkish relationship started to deteriorate

    Citizens in Arab States began protesting against autocratic and oppressive governments.The protest spreaded from Tunisia to across the Arab world. In states like Oman, Syria, Libya, and Jordan the protest have occurred. The outcome of the protest is unclear. The Tunsia president left the country on January 14, 2011
