Establishment of the Roman Republic

509 BCE

This event was important because it established a complex republican government in which citizens could elect representatives that ruled for their behalf.It was also important because during this period there was a constitution with laws that gave Rome governmental stability.

Punic Wars (264 BC – 146 BCE)

This event was important because the three wars resulted in Roman victory, destruction of Carthage, expansion of trade and wealth, domination of the Mediterranean Basin over the next 100 years, and diffusion of Roman culture.

Death of Julius Caesar

44 BCE

This event was important because not only did it play a critical role in the events that led to the demise of the Roman Republic, but also to the rise of the Roman Empire. After his death the Civil War followed.

Augustus Caesar as the 1st Emperor

27 BCE

This event was important because this emperor unified and enlarged the Roman Empire by using imperial authority and military. He also established the Roman Empire by instituting the civil service system, enforcing rule by law, establishing common coinage, and securing travel and trade throughout Europe.

Pax Romana (27 BCE TO 180 AD)

This event is important because it was the 200 year period of peace and prosperity under imperial rule of Rome. During this period of time there was an expansion and solidification of the Roman Empire. It also brought many positive economic, social, and political impacts to Rome.

Death of Augustus (14 AD)

This event was important because he failed to provide a peaceful method for the succession of new emperors and due to that after his death the choosing of new emperors was quite chaotic.

Death of Jesus (33 AD)

This event was important because it lead to the beginning/rise of Christianity. Christianity was later on adopted as the Roman religion.

Decline of the Roman Empire (476 CE)

This event was important because it was the fall of Ancient Rome. The Romans were attacked and defeated which lead to the end of the Roman Empire.
