    20,000 militia gathered in Boston while the British remained in control of the city, while the militia camped nearby. The next day, the redcoats gathered at Breed's Hill, Preston ordered not to fire until they saw the Americans.Americans at the first gunshot wanting the British to retreat. Finally the Americans ran out of gun powder so they ad to withdraw. The Battle at Bunker Hill at Breed's Hill, was a British victory. But the British lost about 1,000 men dead and wounded.

    British were trying to find the militia's stores of ammunition and arms.Paul Revere and William Dawes warned the militia that the British troops were coming. 79 militia met 1,000 British troops. 8 militia were killed. This was the first battle of the American Revolution.

    20,000 soldiers made up the Patriots force under George Washington.The British badly defeated the Continental Army. A Patriot, Nathan Hale, disguised himself as a schoolteacher and spied on British troops. The British caught Hale and hanged him as his punishment. The Patriots fought hard on Long Island they couldn't overcome the British Army. A British officer reported that many patriots weren't wearing jackets,socks,and shoes. After the defeat, the British chased the Continental Army

    The Patriots were struggling through the winter, the British force settled in New York.On Christmas night 1776,Washington led 2,400 troops across the icy river to surprise the enemy at Trenton the following day. In early 1777, the British began a three-pronged battle plan. They wanted to seize New York and gain control of the Hudson River. If they take over the Hudson River, They would cut New England from the Middle Colonies.Then three British forces would then attack Patriot troops at Albany.

    The British plan for taking Albany was in trouble. Patriots had stopped St.Leger at Fort Stanwix. American troops under General Horatio Gates blocked and surrounded Burgoyne's army. Burgoyne made an attack on October 7. On October 17, 1777, Burgoyne surrendered. The British plan failed.The Continental Army won a big victory that changed the war.
  • Battle of Monmouth

    Battle of Monmouth
    Henry Clinton retreated from Philadelphia to New York.George Washington decided to attack. Washington choose the Marquis de Lafayette to lead the attack but Charles Lee objected and succeeded in taking the lead. Charles Lee learned that British reinforcements were drawing near and ordered to retreat his soldiers. Henry Clinton received a message that a French Fleet was on there way to America. Both the Americans and British claimed victory at Monmouth.

    Nathanael Greene gathered militia from all directions and marched toward General Cornwallis.Dividing his army into two, he sent Daniel Morgan to threaten Cornwallis. Cornwallis sent Banastre Tarleton to attack Morgan and his army. The army met at the enemy in Cowpens and killed and captured almost all of the British who were being undisciplined and broke ranks. The Continental Army had a great victory at Cowpens
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    In 1780 the French government had sent over a strong army under Rochambeau. Cornwallis then set out to capture Marquis de Lafayette and his men. Rochambeau led his men to New York and joined the main American army. He pretended to attack New York and deceived Henry Clinton that he ordered Cornwallis to send his soldiers to New York. The British attacked it and were defeated. On October 19,1781, the British surrendered. The British army was decimated and the Revolutionary war was over.
