  • The Cotton Gin was created

    The Cotton Gin was created
    In 1793 the Cotton Gin was created by Eli Whitney. His product sped up the process of cleaning cotton, making cotton a very commonly sold product. Eli Whitney got very little recognition for his invention because many other people had made their own versions. By the 19th century cotton had became America's leading export. Though it sped up the process of cleaning cotton, it actually used more slaves because it was being cleaned at a faster rate so more slaves were needed to pick the cotton.

  • The Louisiana purchase is made

    Thomas Jefferson made a purchase that was more than 800,000 squares miles. This purchase doubled the size of the United States costing 15 million dollars. The land was sold because it was simply to expensive to hold a large amount of land in the western hemisphere. The purchase included so many stated including Arkansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, and many more states. Just imagine how much smaller America would be if this purchase hadn't been made.

    The first functional steamboat was created by Robert Fulton, though John Fitch was the first man to build the steamboat, they were too expensive and were unsuccessful.
  • Slave trade ends

    Southern congressmen ended slave trade by joining with the North and having people vote, it became effective in January 1, 1808

    The War against American and The United Kingdom begins
    America went to war with 35,000 soldiers, while Britain came in to war with 48,000 soldier. The war started because of many trade restrictions.

    John Stafford Smith wrote the National Anthem, he was inspired by the war of 1812.
  • The War Against The United Kingdom Ends

    The War Against The United Kingdom Ends
    The War ended with a treaty called the Treaty of Ghent. The treaty said nothing about what started the war but it did open more lakes making America bigger. Though it had not been a victory but rather an agreement people still felt nationalism. The war did not last long either, it started in 1812-1815, that's only three years. About 230,000 soldiers were killed in the war and 130,000 people were killed in total.

    The Missouri Compromise was an attempt to equally divide the country making north free states and the south slaves states. The law had to make two new states to be equally divided, those states were Missouri and Maine. Many people had a sense of sectionalism during this time because half of the people wanted slaves while the other half did not. Their had been one flaw with the compromise, people who lived in the south and had slaves, would be able to bring their slaves with them to the north.

  • Eli Whitney dies

    Eli Whitney died of prostate cancer in New Heaven, Connecticut,1825. Eli Whitney was a great inventor, his greatest invention was the Industrial Revolution. He created the cotton gin which jump started the industrial revolution, but he made more than just the cotton gin. He also created interchangeable parts which are identical parts of a product. Interchangeable part aloud people to just replace parts rather than the entire product.
  • Rail Roads are invented

    The first steam locomotive was tested on long tracks built by the Delaware and Hudson company. The train was too heavy for the tracks and was changed to stationary engines.
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    You may of heard of many kinds slave rebellions, but none of which were like Nat Turner's rebellion in 1831. Nat Turner was born on a plantation and was taught how to read and write . He was a very religious man and believed that god wanted him to free slaves. His plan was to move from plantation to plantation killing their owners only using knives and axes so they wouldn't attract attention.
  • Photography was invented

    Louis Daguerre created photography, but took eight hours of light exposure to actually see the photo. Though it was invented in 1827 in was publicly announced in 1839.
  • America goes to war with Mexico

    Texas had gained independence from Mexico, but America declines to incorporate it into a union, because they didn't want another slave state.
  • America and Mexico End Their War

    The American-Mexican war ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty added an additional 525,000 square miles,
  • The death of Zachery Taylor

    The 12th president, Zachary Taylor, dies of a terrible stomach flu.
  • Abraham Lincoln becomes President

    On November 6, 1860, Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the United States.

    When the Pemberton Mills collapse it killed 200 people and wounded 150 it could be named the largest industrial accident .
