Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany, the first child of Hermann and Pauline Einstein.

Schooling

Einstein enrolled in the second grade of a Catholic elementary school called the Petersschule. He received Jewish religious instruction at home and also began taking violin lessons.

Moving from city

1894

The Einstein family moved to Milan, Italy, but Einstein remained in Munich to complete his education at Luitpold Gymnasium.

College

1896

Einstein began studying at the Zurich Polytechnic in a teachers' training program.

Renouncement

Jan 28, 1896

Einstein renounced to his German citizenship and became a Swiss citizen.

Mathematic Teacher

Jul 28, 1900

Einstein received his diploma as a mathematics teacher and started working on his doctoral thesis.

Work

1901

From May to July, Einstein worked as a temporary teacher at the Technical College in Winterthur, Switzerland. Some months later, in September, Einstein began working as a teacher at a private school in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.

Einstein and Mileva Maric's illegitimate daughter, Liererl, was born in Hungary.

Olympia Academy

1903

Einstein formed the Olympia Academy with his friends Maurice Solovine and Conrad Habicht.

Quantum Theory

Einstein completes his paper on quantum theory. The quantum theory explains the nature and behavior of matter and energy on the atomic and subatomic level.

Einstein's paper on the special theory of relativity was published in the Annalen der Physik.

Einstein received his doctorate from the University of Zurich.

Einstein began collaborating with Marcel Grossman about the general theory of relativity.

Einstein married his cousin Elsa in Berlin.

Solar Eclipse/Confirmation of Relativity Theory

Nov 6, 1919

A solar eclipse allowed scientists to observe phenomena predicted by Einstein's general relativity theory, and news of the theory's confirmation were announced at a ceremonial meeting of the Royal Society of London. Einstein became famous.

Nobel Prize

Einstein wins the Nobel Prize for his work on quantum theory.

American citizen

Death of Albert

Einstein died in New Jersey. His body was cremated and his papers turned over to the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
