    The 18th Amendment
    The 18th Amendment is the ban on making and selling of alcohol. When this went into effect saloons were forced to close down. People who liked alcohol didn't like the government interfering, and found ways to get a hold of it.

    Radio broadcasting began in 1920 with the historic broadcast of KDKA. Few people actually heard the voices and music which were produced because of the dearth of radio receivers at that time. The public, however, was overcome by a radio craze after the initial broadcast.

    The Ford Motor Company in Detroit made the Model T. Ford, the first affordable car. Ford produced more than a million automobiles, at a rate of one per minute. Each car cost $335.

    President Calvin Coolidge quickly tried to clean up the scandals. He was reelected president in 1924. He instituted the laissez faire, which stated that business would act in a way that would benefit the nation

    The KKK believed that America should be racially pure, which means they discriminated the blacks. The Klan became very strong in many states, including non-southern states. The Klu Klux Klan had over 5 million members in 1924.

    Nellie Tayloe Ross was elected as governor of Wyoming, and Miriam "Ma" Ferguson for Texas. This was a big deal for women, because it took 50 years for an equal rights amendment would pass Congress. This was the starting point for women equality in America.

    Lindbergh Flys Across The Atlantic
    Lindbergh was the first person to fly nonstop across the Atlantic. He flew because he heard there was an offer of $25,000 to anyone that would dare to fly nonstop. He flew 3,600 mile in 33 hours, after that he became a hero.

    Kellogg Briand Pact is signed
    The Kellogg Brian Pact was Calvin Coolidge's creation. The Pact was signed by 15 nations. The treaty stated that these nations will not make a war with one another except in time of self-defense. Many Americans liked this Pact hoping that war will stop.

    The stock market crashed on October 24th, 1929. Known as Black Tuesday it is the beginning of the Great Depression. Considered the most devastating crash in stock history.
