    World Trade Center Bombing 1993
    The World Trade Center Bombing was a terrorist attack where a bomb exploded beneath the World Trade Center complex's north tower in New York City. The goal of the bombing was to have the North Tower crash into the South Tower eliminating both. The bombing killed 6 people and injured more than 1000 people. The attack was led by Ramzi Yousef and his terrorist group. This is an important event because this was the first attempt at taking down the Twin Towers. (U.S Department of State)
  • NAFTA

    NAFTA
    NAFTA stands for North American Free Trade Agreement. It officially came into effect on January 1st 1994. This agreement was between the US, Mexico, and Canada to have free trade. There would be no tariffs on goods going between these countries. The goal was to promote economic integration, which it did. Trade had significantly increased between these countries.     U.S Assault Weapon Ban of 1994
    The assault weapon ban was a legislative measure trying to ban the use of certain firearms that were considered assault weapons. It occurred after the shooting of a teacher and 34 students in Stockton California, 5 people had died. The ban was passed on August 25th, 1994, and lasted 10 years until September 13, 2004. The goal was to reduce gun violence by limiting access to these weapons. During this time frame, mass shooting rates dropped which significant in history. (US Department of Justice)

    The Oklahoma City Bombing
    The Oklahoma City Bombing was a domestic terrorist act that occurred in Oklahoma City. It was the biggest terrorist attack prior to 9/11. The attack was carried out by two white supremacists, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. They constructed a truck bomb and their target was the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The bombing killed 168 people and many were injured. This event caused the government to make changes against terrorism which was significant in history. (Kruse and Zelizer, 220-221)

    Impeachment of Bill Clinton
    Bill Clinton was an American politician who was a Democrat with a very moderate view. The cause for Clinton's impeachment was an accusation that he had sexual affairs with a white house intern named Monica Lewinsky. "He was improbably exposed by a Drudge report." Clinton denied the affair under oath which led to accusations of perjury and obstruction of justice. The impeachment process began in early 1999 and he ended up being found not guilty and was in office till 2001. (Kruse and Zelizer 226)
  • September 11, 2001

    September 11, 2001
    9/11 was a series of terrorist acts performed by the extremist terrorist group, Al- Qaeda. Four planes were hijacked by these terrorists. Two were flown into the Twin Towers. This caused the collapse of both the North and South towers within minutes. The third plane hit the Pentagon and the fourth plane landed and crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. There were nearly 3,000 people left dead and several injured. After the attack, the nation was in a state of solidarity. (Kruse and Zelizer, 248)

    The Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 was a tax bill that President George Bush signed on June 7th, 2001. The Act was known for its tax cuts and tax rebates. The EGTRRA lowered federal tax rates and contributed to Individual Retirement plans. This was a big part of US History because it stimulated economic growth by giving consumers and businesses more money which would increase spending and investments. (Congress.gov)
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
    The No Child Left Behind Act was federal funding to make sure every student from K-12 had a successful education and the system left "no child behind" in schooling. "No Child Left Behind imposed rigorous national standards in subjects like math and English." (The Fault Lines) Teachers were held accountable to keep up with these standards and ensure every student achieved an understanding.     The Department of Homeland Security was created after 9/11 to ensure the safety of US citizens from any threats. The DHS was created to protect our country from any other terrorist attacks we were all in a state of fear after 9/11 happened. They secured our borders and established immigration laws.     Presidential Election of Barack Obama
    Barack Obama was the Democratic candidate running against John McCain the Republican candidate in 2008. He had 365 electoral votes and McCain had 173. Barack Obama's election was significant because he was the first African American to be elected president of the United States. This was a breakthrough for minorities all across the US.
