    advocated Italian nationalism. Mussolini launched a program of terrorism and intimidation against opponents.

    Mussolini led the fascists on a march in Rome, where king Emmanuel 3, asked Mussolini to form a new government. He was appointed prime minister by the head of a three-member fascist cabinet.

    Joseph Stalin Becomes Leader Of Soviet Union
    Stalin moved up the political party ladder and became secretary general of the Central Committee of the Communist Party. In 1924 Stalin won the power struggle for the communist party and from there he continued moving up until he was dictator.

    Hitler wasn't appeased by Franz Von Papen's rule, he wanted the chancellorship for himself. Hitler blamed the Reichstag fire on the communists and convinced president Hindenburg to sign a decree suspending individual and civil liberties.

    Japan was reprimanded by the League of Nations and given sanctions. They thought the League of Nations was run to further the colonial agendas of the major powers.
  • Italy Invades Ethiopia

    In 1934 Ethiopia was one of the few independent states in European-dominated Africa. In 1935bthe Italians invaded Ethiopia, rejecting all arbitration offers and were victorious against Ethiopia.
  • Anscluss

    Anscluss is German for union. The political union of Austria and Germany through annexation by Hitler. they were however unsuccessful.
  • Munich Conference

    settlement reached by Germany, Great Britain, France and Italy that allowed German annexation of the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia. France and Britain wanted to avoid military conflict at all costs. Czechoslovakia was forced to accept that 50% Sudeten German be returned to Germany
  • Hitler And Stalin Sign Non-Aggression Pact

    Both countries agreed to take no military action against each other for the next 10 years. The pact contained a secret agreement in which soviets and Germans agreed on how to eventually divide up Europe. The pact fell apart in 1941 when Nazis invaded Soviet Union.

    The invasion was a primer on how Hitler planned on how to wage war called the "blitzkrieg" strategy. Germany was victorious until Great Britain responded with bombing raids over Germany 3 days later.

    Lifted the arms ebargo and put all the traded with belligerent nations under the terms of "cash-and-carry." The ban on loans remained in effect and American ships were barred from transporting goods to belligerent ports.

    China began full-scale resistance to the expansion of Japanese influence in its territory, Japans defeat ended its occupation of China in 1945.
