Munich Olympic Massacre
On September 5, 1972, during the Munich Olympic games, the Palestinian terrorist group, “Black September”, attacked the Israeli olympic team, killed 2 Israeli athletes, and took another 9 israeli athletes hostage and demanded that Israel release 230+ Arab prisoners. During a shootout at the Munich Airport, the other 9 athletes were killed along with 5 of the terrorists and a police officer. The Olympics were held back another 24 hours to hold a memorial service for the athletes. -
Birmingham Pub Bombing
On November 21, 1974, members of the Irish Republican Army exploded bombs in two public houses. This occured in Birmingham, United Kingdom. There were 21 fatalities and an estimated 182 injuries. The people that were convicted denied part in the act. This was one of the worst acts of terrorist actions in Birmingham to this day. -
Beirut Barracks Bombing
On October 23, 1983, members of the Hezbollah group used truck bombs on two buildings in Beirut, Lebanon. There were 307 deaths and 75 injuries. 220 of these people were U.S. marines. When these bombings happened, another man drove a truck into a building with French paratroopers and killed around 58 French soldiers. The purpose of this was to kill the marines and soldiers. -
World Trade Center Bombing
On February 26, 1993, a truck bomb was detonated below the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York. This was caused by Islamic terrorists because of America’s foreign policy and its support with Israel. 6 people were killed and over 1000 people were injured. This was an 1,200 pound bomb. -
AMIA Bombing
On July 18, 1994, Ibrahim Hussein Berro used a car bomb on the Asociacion Mutual Israelita Argentina building. This occurred in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There were an estimated 100+ injuries and 85 deaths. This terrorist attack was by the Hezbollah (Islamist political party) group. This is known as the deadliest terrorist attack in Argentina. -
Tokyo Subway Sarin Attacks
On March 20, 1995, members of a Japanese doomsday cult known as “Aum Shinrikyo” released sarin gas on train lines. This occurred throughout Tokyo, Japan. 12 people died and over a thousand to five thousand people were thought to be injured. This is known as one of the worst attacks in Japan. Later on, most of the cult members were executed. -
9/11
The attacks on September 11, 2001, members of Al-Qaeda, hijacked 4 planes. The planes crashed into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and the last one crashed in a field in Pennsylvania, due to the passengers fighting back. Both of the Twin Towers completely collapsed in clouds of smoke, injuring 10,000 and only leaving 6 alive. The Attack was caused due Al-Qaeda's hatred of America because of their continued military presence in the Middle East. -
Madrid Train Bombings
On March 11, 2004, members of the Al-Qaeda group set up 10 bombs on commuter trains. They were thought to do this because of Islamic extremism. This happened in Madrid, Spain. There were around 191-194 people killed and nearly 2000 injuries. They did this because they opposed the spanish’s participation in the Iraq War. -
Mumbai Bombings
From November 26-29, 2008, bombs exploded throughout Mumbai, India. The man behind the bombs was Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, who had set up these bombs. There were 175 fatalities and 308 injures. The reason for this is unknown, but people have many different ideas. The most likely idea was that they were doing this due to the 10 year conflict for the region of Kashmir between India and Pakistan. -
Boston Marathon Bombing
On April 15, 2013, two bombs went off near the finish line of a marathon that was taking place in Boston, Massachusetts. The group suspected to have placed the bombs were part of a tameranian group. The reason for this is thought to be because of retribution for the U.S. military action in Afghanistan and Iraq. There were 3 people killed and over 260 people injured. 16 people lost limbs. -
November 2015 Paris Attacks
On November 13, 2015 to November 14, 2015, there were series of terrorist attacks. Suicide bombers attacked “state de france” during a football match. The terrorist are thought to be member of the Islamic State. There were 130 deaths and 350 injuries. The motive was Islamic extremism against France. -
Orlando Nightclub Shooting
On June 12, 2016 a man that was part of the “Lone Wolf” (Islamic State) group entered a gay club. He held people hostage and shot and killed 49 people. He was killed by the FBI in an attempt to storm the building. The perpetrators name was Omar Mateen. -
Camp Shaheen Attack 2017
A military base called Camp Shaheen was attacked on April 21, 2017. This took place in Balkh Province, Afghanistan by the Taliban. An estimated 250 Afghan Soldiers were killed, and an estimated 160 were injured. -
Bir al-Abd Mosque Attack
On November 24, 2017 attackers put bombs around a mosque in Bir al-Abd, Egypt. They then set fire to them when people started coming out of the mosque. They shot and killed any survivors they saw. The group suspected was the Islamic State, and there were around 309 fatalities. -
2019 Easter Bombing
Explosions happened at three churches, three hotels and two other places. These took place in large cities of Sri Lanka. There are 253 reported deaths, and an estimated 500+ injuries. This occured on April 21, 2019 in Colombo, Sri Lanka by an Islamic State (National Thowheeth Jama’ath). 76 suspects of the Easter Bombing were arrested.
