    The Tariff of Abominations was a Tariff passed by the United States government that protected industry in the North, leaving southern industry poorer and more vulnerable, leading to retaliation by South Carolina's government.
  • Webster-Hayne Debates

    The Webster-Hayne Debates were a series of debates on states' rights. Public land policy, western expansion, and slavery were all topics of these debates, lead by Robert Y. Hayne and Daniel Webster.
  • Proclamation to People of South Carolina

    On December 10th, 1832, Jackson made a proclamation to the people of South Carolina, stating his thoughts on the Ordinance of Nullification, that being he was against it. It was stated that he would never support the Ordinance and that he would do everything in his power to fight it.
  • Ordinance of Nullification

    This was an act taken by South Carolina that considered the Tariff of Abomination null and void within the state borders. Legislature within their borders would enforce this as well.
