    Milestone 1 - Physical Development

    Milestone 1 - Physical Development
The newborn weighs about 7.5lbs on average and will lose some of that weight in the beginning, and then grow very rapidly with proper nutrition and exercise. Movement is mainly reflexive in response to stimulation and the baby will develop their gross motor skills first. Fine motor skills start to develop around 9 months. Vision is still developing after birth as the womb was quite dark. It will sharpen as they grow over the next six months.

    Milestone 2 - Cognitive Development

Babies develop their sensorimotor intelligence through sights and sounds and by touching and tasting. They understand the difference between objects and are more in control of and intentional with their movements and vocalizations.

    Milestone 3 - Social/Emotional Development

    Milestone 3 - Social/Emotional Development
As babies learn to socialize with their caregivers and peers eventually become more self aware and understand how their actions and behaviors can influence others. They develop a sense of trust when their caregivers appropriately respond to their emotional needs in a timely and consistent way. Growing up in a positive and trustworthy environment is crucial and can lessen the likelihood of negative behaviors and temperaments later in life.

    Milestone 4 - Language Development

    Milestone 4 - Language Development
Newborns communicate through their vocalizations. They haven't yet grasped their voluntary control over the sounds they make and learn to express their needs through cries and babbling. As a caregiver spends time with their baby, they can discern what each cry means. Eventually the baby will try and recreate accidental sounds they make, use consonants, and mimic conversation by alternating turns "talking" with others.
