BES Report: Jolted: Newton Starker's Rules for Survial Timeline By Amylia H.

  • Exposition 1

    Newton Starker is in ninth grade and attends a survival school called Jerry Potts Academy. Everybody in Newton's family has died by lightning strikes, except his great-grandmother Enid Starker. Newton's Mother died by lightning two years ago.
  • Exposition 2

    Jerry Potts Academy is a boarding school with high levels of learning in Moose Jaw, Canada. The school also teaches survival in the wilderness. It has been completely lightning-proofed for Newton's safety.
  • Exposition 3

    Exposition 3
    Newton- The main character of Jolted. Determined, easily angered, and a great cook. He wants to impress people and make friends at school
    Jacob- Newton's best friend at Jerry Potts Academy. Very intelligent, and wants to be an author when he grows up
    Newton's Dad- Newton's only parent (since his mom is dead)and gaurdian
    Violet- popular, determined and intelligent, she is Newton's enemy (in his opinion)
    Enid Starker- Newton's spiteful great-grandmother, the longest-living Starker in history
  • Conflict

    Conflict
    Newton's family attracts lightning like metal, and they all have died from lightning strikes except his hateful great-grandmother. Also, Newton is convinced that a girl named Violet at his school is his enemy, because he thinks she is the one who threw a stone at him, making his kilt fall while he was reciting a poem for his classmates.

    Newton is still angry at Violet for throwing a stone at him. He decides to retalliate by knocking her oatmeal over onto her at breakfast. Violet is furious, and warns him to watch out.
  • Rising Action2

    A storm begins on a clear, sunny day that went unpredicted by the weathermen. Newton begins to feel uneasy.
  • Rising Action 3

    Rising Action 3
    Newton goes to eat at his favorite resturant on a weekend, and on the way home is almost struck by a lightning bolt, being missed by an inch.
  • Rising Action 4

    Rising Action 4
    Newton decides to go visit his great-grandmother again. When he arrives at her house, they go outside and a storm starts blowing. However, they can't get inside fast enough, and great-grandmother Enid is struck by lightning and dies, leaving Newton the last Starker on earth.
  • Rising Action 5

    Rising Action 5
    Newton meets Violet in the hall, and challenges her to beat him at something. Violet picks boxing, and Newton loses the fight, being knocked into the oppisite wall. Everybody pulls out their cellphones, but only to call friends and tell them about it. Only Violet calls for help.
  • Climax

    Climax
    After Newton knocks Violet off the hill and gets the cell phone, she cries out that she has broken her leg. Newton does not know what to do, and finally he decides to go back to help her.
  • Falling Action 1

    Newton leaves Violet with Joshephine and runs into the woods, because a storm has started, and he knows he will put everyone in great danger if he is near them when a lightning bolt hits.
  • Falling Action 2

    Newton is still running when he is struck by lightning. He feels strangely calm, and then he feels something brush against his leg. He looks down and found out it was his pig. Josephine had the bolt transferred to her, saving Newton's life.

    Newton wakes up in the school infirmary, with a sore, bandaged head. The headmaster of Jerry Potts Academy says he can take off school awhile to recover from the lightning strike.

    Newton finds out that Josephine also survived the bolt, and is overjoyed. Josephine is happy to see him, too.
  • Resolution 1

    Resolution 1
    Newton decides he likes Violet, and Violet likes him. He knows that they will be great friends.
  • Resolution 2

    Resolution 2
    Newton's dad comes to visit him, and to take him home for a while to recover. He was sick with worry over the news he had recieved about Newton. Newton can not wait to come back to school in a few weeks!
