    began when the Chinese resisted Japanese expansion in its territory. the Japanese felt that since the Chinese government would not yield to their wished they needed to be eliminate. the liquidation of the nationalists capital was a big point in the war as much as 300,000 Chinese soldiers and civilians were killed in this incident, towards the end of the war china received strong outside help from places like the United States which resulted in Japanese surrender.
