WWII Timeline

  • Germany’s invasion of Poland

    The beginning of WWII erupted when Germany decided to invade Poland. The invasion initiated a long and strenuous fight for many years. The effect on the U.S. was partial but they realized that it was a serious matter.
  • France Surrenders

    After a grueling invasion, the French fell to the German forces. This left the British alone to fight against Germany. The U.S. saw that aid needed to be given in order to strengthen the defenses of Britain to stand tall. This allowed for Britain to continue fighting with the help of the United States
  • “Lend-lease”

    The United States implemented a new neutrality act in order to aid the Allied Powers in Europe. The money and arms used were sent to aid Britain in both land and sea battles against Britain, forming a strong resilience.
  • Pearl Harbor Attack

    The attack of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese brought the U.S. into the war. It left a mark on Americans that would be remembered forever. This attack changed the outlook of the U.S. and they decided to fight back.
  • Battle of Midway

    A strenuous battle against the Japanese and American navy. The United States came up victorious making a turning point in the Pacific. The U.S. kept their base in Midway allowing for a better eye and standpoint on the war with Japan.

    Battle of Stalingrad

    The most bloodiest and grueling fight between Germany and Russia. The Russians came to a victory creating a turning point in the war. This pushed back Germany and allowed for a glimpse at a complete victory. The Allied Powers, including the U.S., were preparing for the day to come.
  • Allied Invasion: D-Day

    The Allied Powers came together to invade western France. The Second Front Stalin had wanted came into effect to fight against the raging power of the Germans. This brought in everyone into the war and started the resilience against Germany.
  • Germany Surrenders

    After the Battle of the Bulge, Germany retreated and soon after Hitler died. Without the power in command, Germany surrendered ending the first half of WWII. The Allied Powers kept a strong front in order to stop the Germans from achieving any more ground.
  • Period: to

    Atomic Warfare

    The United States threatened Japan with utter destruction regarding the war if they did not step back. The Japanese did not, and in turn the U.S. dropped atomic bombs on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This left thousands of Japanese civilians dead resulting in a devastating aftermath for Japan.
  • Japan Surrenders

    After the huge losses from the atomic bombs, Japan finally surrendered. This meant another victory for the United States and ended the second half of WWII. Finally the war was over.
