This was considered the crucial turning point in WWII because its failure forced Germany to fight a two-front war against a coalition possessing immensely superior

    Hundreds of japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at pearl harbor near hawaii. The japanese managed to destroy nearly 20 american naval vessels. The American fatality was over 2000 soldiers. The US was unhappy with Japans beligerant attitude towards china and Japan believed that the only way to solve its issues would be to expand into its neighbors territory so Japan declared war on China. No one thought that japan would begin war with an attack on US territory, but they did.

    HIgh ranking nazi parties officials gathered at a villa in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee to discuss and coordinate the implementation of the "final solution of the jewish question" The final solution was a code name for the physical annilation of European jews. This basically caused WWII

    Bataan Death March
    75000 Filipino and American troops on Bataan were forced to make a 65 mile march to prison camps. The prisoners were treated harshly by japanese prison guards and thousands died. The day after the pearl harbor attack the japanese invasion of the phillipines began. Finally the the forces were crippled by starvation the general surrended at Bataan.

    Officer Jurgen Stroop orded the destruction of Warsaws Tlomackie synagogue which was the spiritual home of polands jews. At the time german troops had been fighting to suppress and army revolt by thousands os jewish fightes. They were poorly supplied and never stood a chance against he uprising. Their bravery inspired others for over 70 years after the uprising ended.

    British bombers raided Hamburg, Germany at night.This attack was the payback on Germany after multiple attacks on britain. Over 30000 people were killed. This attack left a mark on hitler and he refused to visit the burnt ruins because in his opinions it signified the loss of the war.

    Hitler attempted to split the allied armies in northwest Europe the allied line took on the appearance of a large bulge which is where the name came from. General Pattons successful maneuvering of the third army to Bastogne proved vital to the allied defense which lead to the neutralization of the german counterdefense and resulted in multiple casualties.

    Okinawa was the last stop before the japanese mainland. The japanese valiantly defended their island against countless American assaults . In the end the island fell into the ultimate control of the allies. About 550,000 people were involved in this battle. The japanese had no airpower so they put up a net of anti-aircraft fire. The battle lasted over 2 months and the end of the battle set the stage for the end of the japanese empire

    The U.S. air force dropped an atomic bomb on the cjapanese city Hiroshima. It resulted in tens of thousands of fatalities. Three days later the U.S. dropped another bomb on Nagasaki and 120,000 civilians died as a result of the two blasts, On August 8th the Soviet Union declared war on Japan.
