    Mao Zedong heads Long March
    In 1934, Mao Zedong and the Communists set out to Northern China to evade the attacking Nationalists. This fleeing was caling the Long March. However, when Mao had gained more followers, he attacked the Nationalists and pushed them out making China a Communist nation.
  • Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany

    Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
    In 1939, Hitler and the Germans decide to invade Poland to have more room in Germany and to be able to access farmland. The Germans also invaded France. Hitler used Blitzkreig which was a strategy to use tanks, trucks, and planes to invade nationsquickly and efficiently.
  • Japan attacks Pearl Harbor

    Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
    On December 7, 1942, Japan attacks the US at Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Hawaii. This day is known to be called "A day that will live in infamy" Many large naval ships were sunk such as the Arizona and a large number of soldiers died sleeping in the boats that sank. The Japanese Admiral Yamamoto knew that after this attack, the Japanese would have maybe 6 months with the USin war.
  • United Nations formed

    United Nations formed
    In late 1945, the United Nations was formed. This was a group of select leaders from each nation gathered into a group to help keep the worl a safer place. The UN still exists today and serves as a problem solving group for international problems.
  • Germany surrenders

    Germany surrenders
    In May 1945, Germany officially surrenders to the allies. However, at this point, Hitler had already committed suicide to avoid facing torture from the Russians and trials from the US and Britain. Many German leaders were charged with crimes against hummanity and were executed or sentenced to life in prision.

    Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    From August to September of 1945, the US built and dropped very powerful nuclear weapons on Nagasaki and Hirosima in Japan. These bombs killed hundreds of thousands of people including many civilians.
