    what: Allies launched a supprise invasion on Normandy and France. why: Britain and the U.S attacked to end WWII and the Nazi domination of Europe. impact: Paris was liberated, the Germans were removed from France, ally forces (Canada,Britain,U.S) prepared to enter German to meet up with Soviet troops. this was the turning point of Nazi rule.

The U.S were trying to take over the island of Iwo Jima in Japan. why: The island was a key area to start they're next move in the war, and there bombing campaign. impact: They gained control over Iwo Jima and claimed it as there own by placing an American Flag on Mount Suribachi.

    what: The bloodiest battle of the Pacific war why: The U.S wanted to weaken Japan as a country, they also wanted Okinawa to deminish resources of Japan and the island of could be used as a support base for scheduled invasion of Japan. impact: Japan had lost the battle due to a bombing at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

    what: VE-Day (Victory in Europe), Germany had oficially surrendered and the war was over in Europe. why: Germany had no leader because Hitler had committed suicide in an underground bunker. Hitler's "thousand year Reich" was over. impact: the war was over in europe and the production of the U.S was growing rapidly.
