    On July 7th of 1937 Japan Invaded China because of Japans desire for power. Japans fight for expansion began in 1931 with the invasion of Manchuria, but then continued in 1937 when Japan attacked and invaded China. This conflict led to a war between the Chinese and Japanese. This also set of the war in pacific where the U.S. would later join.

    Blitzkrieg, lightning war, is a type of attack that creates for shorter battles and doesn't use up as much artillery and people. Germany used this tactic first on Poland in 1939, they then used it on begum, the Netherlands, and then France in 1940. This tactic helped Germany invade and conquer many countries while preserving resources and their army.

    Germany's invasion of Poland
    September 1st 1939, the Germans started World War Two by invading Poland, the invaded Poland because Hitler wanted to create his empire. Germany was be to attack Poland because of the German-Soviet Pact of nonaggression. This attack led to Britain and France to declare war on Germany two days later. A month later Poland was defeated by German and Soviet forces, and the war was on.

  • Operation Barbarossa

    Operation Barbarossa
    On June 22nd 1941, Hitler sent Germany troops in a massive invasion on the Soviet Union. Germany went against their pact with the Soviets that was made in 1939. The Soviet's won the battle against Germany, only after they suffered heavy losses. This battle happened because of Hitlers hatred for the Soviets and because of his need of imperial power.   • Pearl Harbor

    On December 7th 194, Japan surprise attack the United States. The Japanese attacked the US naval base of Pearl Harbor located in Hawaii. After this deadly attack that left a substantial amount of US fleet damaged, the United States declared war on Japan.   • Wannsee Conference

    Nazi Officials met to find a solution on what to do with the Jewish people. They decided to take all of the jews and transport them to concentration camps where they would be worked to death. This meeting would end up being an important factor in the Nuremberg war crimes trials. The "final solution" was the holocaust

    After the April 9, 1942, U.S. surrender of the Bataan Peninsula on the main Philippine island of Luzon to the Japanese, about 75,000 Filipino and American troops were forced on a 65-mile march to prison camps.   • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    was the successful Soviet defense of the city of Stalingrad. The Russians consider it to be the greatest battle of their Great Patriotic War. The soviets were able to stop the Germans from advancing into the Soviet Union and marked the turning of the tide of war in favor of the Allies. The battle was one of the bloodiest battles in history causing casualties of nearly 2 million.

  • Warsaw Ghetto uprising

    Citizens of the Jewish ghettos, started an armed revolt against deportations to extermination camps. The Warsaw ghetto uprising inspired many other revolts in extermination camps and ghettos throughout German-occupied Eastern Europe. This was done from April 19th-May 16th of 1943, during World War Two.

    Operation Gomorrah
    On July 24 1943 British bombers raided Germany, by night in Operation Gomorrah, while the US bombed it by day in its own “Blitz Week.” This attack was a devastation to Germany. The Ally forces fought their way across the Normandy countryside in the face of determined German resistance. The Normandy landings is said to be the end of war in Europe.

    Soviet soldiers were the first to liberate concentration camp prisoners On January 27, 1945, soldiers entered Auschwitz and found hundreds of sick and exhausted prisoners. British, Canadian, American and French troops also helped to free the prisoners from the camps. This led to the nuremberg trials.

    In August of 1945 The United States of America dropped tow nuclear bombs in Japan. August 6th, an american B-29 plane dropped the first ever nuclear bomb to be used, over the city Hiroshima. August 9th, the US dropped another nuclear bomb over Nagasaki. This forced the Japanese to surrender. This was the end of the war in the Pacific.

    On February 19th 1945, The United States marines landed on the island after a naval and aircraft bombing. The US wanted and needed a base close to the Japans out so they attacked Iwo Jima.     This was one of the last and biggest battles of the war in the Pacific. The united states and allied powers had to defend air bases that were vitalto the projected invasion of Japan.
