WWII Events: Paul Miller B4

  • The Great Depression begins

    The Great Depression begins
On October 29, 1029, the US stock market crashed now this would not have been such a big deal if every country was not involved in the US stock market but it was. So when it went down it threw countries all over the world into an economic slump. So when Hitler came to power they supported and trusted him because they wanted to change so bad because of all of the war reparations and the great depression. So in a way the great depression is one of the major causes of WWII.
  • Hitler became chancellor of Germany

    Hitler became chancellor of Germany
As john green said that you could argue that WWII became chancellor of Germany or as they would say, Fuhrer. I will also point out that he became he was not elected he became chancellor. So I think this is important because if he did not get elected then the Nazi’s may have never come to be so powerful and then even if there was a war it would not have been so hard. So I really think that this was import because the war would have been a lot different without Hitler.
  • End of the Berlin Olympics

    End of the Berlin Olympics
As the 1936 Olympics were being held Hitler was very confident that the Aryans would win because they were the “superior”, which I always thought was weird because by Hitler specifications he was far from perfect. Anyways he was proved wrong by easily when Jesse Owens won 4 gold medals he was an African American. Even after he was proven wrong all of the German fascist still believed that he was right so it showed how much they trusted him.
  • Kristallnacht or the “night of broken glass”

Kristallnacht or the “night of broken glass”
This was a foreshadowing event that told how bad the Nazi’s really were going to treat people that were not perfect. On this night the Nazi’s went around town and burned synagogues, Jewish businesses, and homes. And the next day 30,000 Jewish men were arrested because they were Jewish and sent to concentration camps. Now I think this is important because it really emphasized how much the Nazi’s did not care so they did whatever they wanted and made being Jewish a crime.
  • Germany invades Poland

    Germany invades Poland
Now, this was not the first time that Germany made a move conquering land but it was the first bold move. It was the first move that crossed the line and after Germany invaded Poland France and Britain were done with Hitler and declared war. If they did not invade Poland who knows maybe the League of Nations would have made a truce with Germany and avoided war but Hitler did not care and he did what he wanted to so.
  • The Battle of Britain begins

    The Battle of Britain begins
Now you could argue that this is not a very significant event but I really do think it is. When the air raids and attacks on Britain made US citizens, government officials and military commanders realize what a threat Hitler really was. So president Franklin Roosevelt started talking with Winston Churchill. If the US was not ready for an attack not communicating it could have changed involvement. And that really would have changed the whole war if America did not get ready to be involved.
  • Hitler invades the USSR

    Hitler invades the USSR
First, you need to know what happened, so in 1940 Hitler and Joseph Stalin made a non-aggression pact. It said that they were not going to attack each other. Not even a year later Hitler attacked them. The Soviet Union would have been a great freaking Allie they have tanks, planes a huge army. It's just not a good idea but now you have Britain and the Soviets wanting to destroy you. Just think about how different it could have been it the Allies fought Germany and the USSR.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
This is one of the more significant events most people know what happened in Pearl Harbor but if you don't know the Japanese bombed the base and decimated the planes and battleships. So the US declared war on Japan. Then Germany and Italy, Japan's friends, declared war on the United States. Plus if it was Germany that attacked Instead of Japan than the first atomic bomb may have not been dropped. It would be a very different world so I think it was better that it was Japan.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
D-Day was basically the battle when the allies took the coast of Normandy and started pinching the Nazi’s. This helped the allies tremendously because they started gaining land in Europe. After that, the troops started moving towards Berlin liberating Concentration and Death camps on their march.
  • Hitler Commits Suicide

    Hitler Commits Suicide
This day marked the end of WWII well not really but the Germans fell apart after this and no longer had a leader. It also tarnished his record that he would just give up. So I think this is important because it shows his lack of will.
  • The Atomic Bomb

    The Atomic Bomb
This is the day when America got revenge and ended the war with Japan. America sent a lone B-29 bomber called the Enola Gay dropped “Little Boy” as they nicknamed it. But this was not a little bomb at all it devastated Hiroshima. When the dictator of the Soviet Union Joseph Stalin was informed it came as no shock because of his spies in the Manhattan Project he was ready and started making weapons. So no buts about it the atomic bomb changed the world and it was the foundation for the cold war.
  • Nuremberg War Trials

    Nuremberg War Trials
The Nuremberg war trials were basically trials for Nazi’s, twelve prominent figures were sentenced to death. During this time they hunted for Nazi’s. I think that this signified the end of the war because they acknowledged the Nazi’s were criminals and now they were punishing them. The fighting had stopped and it was time to celebrate. However, there was much damage cause and two out of every three Jews in Europe had been killed.
