    A confrontation happened between Chinese and Japanese troops. It happened at the Marco-Polo Bridge, and it led to an undeclared war between them. The reason behind the Japanese invasion of China was Japan's wish to be an imperial power. Another reason was that they lacked resources to be an industrial power. The effect was the death of 300,000 people and damages in China. The invasion ended 1945.

    It was a nonaggression pact between Germany and Russia. They agreed not to attack each other, not to support any third power that might attack the other party,and not to join any group of powers threatening one of the two parties.This pact happened so Hitler can invade the other countries (Britain, France etc.) without worrying about being attacked by the Russia. The effects were the 2 countries not fighting, exchanging information,and resolving arguments peacefully. Also, this pact led to WWII

They used it first on Poland during 1939 and it was successful. Also, it was used on other several countries successfully. The impact of the German Blitzkrieg was that it kept the enemy forces disorganized, in shock, and in ruins.

    Germany entered Poland with 2,000 tanks and 1,000 planes and attacked. The main reason for Hitler was that this invasion will bring Lebensraum for the German people. He thought that the Germans would colonise the territory and the native Slavs would be enslaved. The effects of this invasion are the end of Second Polish Republic, the death of 65,000 Polish troops, and the beginning of WWII. The invasion ended in 1945.

    It was when Germany invaded France. At that time, Germany defeated the Allied forces, so they began conquering countries such as France and Belgium. Paris fell due to mistaken assumptions about how the attack would be carried out. The outcome/effect was Axis victory, fall of Paris, and the death of many people.

    Hitler attacked Russia. The front stretched from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. Soviet armies were shocked, and Soviet air force was destroyed on the ground. Russia was able to fight back and defeat Germany. It was Hitler's mistake to attack Russia. He wanted to attack Russia to destroy the Soviet Union by military force, to eliminate the communist threat to Germany, and to seize land. The effect was that it forced Germany to fight a 2 front against superior resources. The operation ended 1943

    Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base in Pearl Harbor. The gunfire lasted for 2 hours though it was devastating. The ships were destroyed and many Americans were killed. Japan did that because it had imperial ambitions in the Pacific. The effect was that U.S declared war on Japan 3 days later.

    It was the U.S. government research project that launched the first atomic bombs. The project was from 1942 -1945.The first atomic bomb was tested on Alamogordo, New Mexico on July 16. 1945. It was produced to make a strong effect on the enemy; a new and effective war weapon had to be created. The impact of the bombs is that it stopped war between 2 countries; when its dropped, the 2 sides would stop fighting and the war comes to an end. Also, the bombs were harmful at the same time.

    It was when surrendered Filipinos and Americans were forced by the Japanese to march 65 miles from Mariveles, on the southern end of the Bataan Peninsula, to San Fernando. They were divided into groups of 100, and it took them 5 days to complete. This happened because Japan defeated the Filipino army so they forced them to march. The effects were the death of between 5,000 and 10,000 soldiers and the execution of the Japanese officer in charge of the march, General Masaharu Homma.

    It was a naval battle between U.S. and Japan. Japan launched a number of fighter planes and bombers from their aircraft carriers to attack Midway. What caused this is that Japan wanted to push U.S. from the Pacific Ocean; so they decided to attack them in Midway island. The effects were American victory and the destruction of carriers.

What caused this was Hitler waning to take over the Soviet Union, but Hitler underestimated Soviet Union's power. The effects were the loss of Germany, the loss of life, and the damage of the city.

    It was Britain and America's attack, bombing, on Hamburg, Germany. Britain attacked Germany up to Gomorrah during night, while America attacked during the day. It was scheduled to last for 3 nights. The reason was that Britain had just suffered the death of 167 civilians as a result of German bombing. The effect of this operation was the destruction of Hamburg and the death of 40,000-50,000 civilians.

    More than 160,000 allied troops landed in Normandy, France to fight Germany. It started in June and ended in August. The reason they allies attacked Germany in France was to free mainland Europe from Nazi occupation during World War II. The effects of D-Day were the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control and the death of more than 9,000 soldiers.

    It was Germany's attempt to divide the Allied armies in northwest Europe by a blitzkrieg through the Ardennes to Antwerp. As Germans went deeper into the Ardennes, the Allied line appeared in a large bulge. Its reason was to split the Allied armies and to push the Allied front line west from northern France to northwestern Belgium. Its effect was the death of many U.S. soldiers (over 100,000 casualties), the loss of troops and war equipment, ruined Germany, and brought about the end of the war.

    It was a bombing raid in Dresden, Germany by the the allies. It was from 13-15 February 1945. The purpose or reason was to destroy the transport infrastructure behind what was becoming the Eastern front. The effects were the destruction of Dresden, and the death of many people.

    It was when 3 U.S. marines landed on Iwo Jima, an island in the Bonin chain 575 miles from the Japanese coast. Iwo Jima was defended by 23,000 Japanese army and troops. The reason was that attacking Iwo Jima was part of a three-point plan the Americans had for winning the war in the Far East. The effects were that Japan can't use the air field since the U.S. won and the air fields were shut down. Also, U.S has a new air base now, but the it lost many men.

    It was a Pacific island battle of World War II. The Okinawa battle (April 1—June 22, 1945) had 287,000 troops of the U.S. against 130,000 soldiers of the Japanese. The reason of the battle was that the U.S needed a base to prepare for the planned invasion of Japan. The effects of it were the suicide of Japanese General Mitsuru Ushijima, the commander of Okinawa’s defense, and Japanese officers and troops rather than surrendering, the death of troops from both sides, and the lost of ships.

    Britain and U.S celebrate victory in Europe Day; the end of WWII is officially announced. Cities put flags and banners and are joyful because of the defeat of the Nazi war machine. This happened because Germany was forced to surrender. The effect of it is that it ended a 6-year long war, ending all the deaths and destruction. Also, people were celebrating and dancing in the streets.

    The U.S was the first to use atomic bombs during wartime. It dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan and this marked the end of WWII. The reason it happened because the U.S wanted Japan to surrender quickly to minimize the American casualties and to try the bomb and see the effects. The effects were the death of 100,000-180,000 people and the destruction of 13 square km of the city.

    It was when Japan surrendered to the Allies, ending WWII. After that, both August 14 and August 15 were known as “Victoryover Japan Day,” or “V-J Day.” The term was also used in September 2, 1945, when Japan’s formal surrender took place on the U.S.S. Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Bay. What caused this day was the surrender of Japan. The results were peace (end of war) and the return to normality.
