    Austria declares war on Serbia
    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assasinated by the Bosnian Serb, and Austria blamed this event on the Serbian government. Russia decided to support Serbia as Germany supported Austria.
  • Germany declares war on Russia

    Germany declares war on Russia
    Germany did not want Russia to push forward toward Austria, and warned them that if they did war would break out. Russia continued to do so and Germany declared war, and France also joined in to help Russia.
  • British forces surrender to the Turks

    British forces surrender to the Turks
    13,000 soldiers at the town of Kut-al-Amara surrendered to the Turkish forces due to mass casualties and terrain difficulties. 23,000 of them died in the winter and then Kut was lost, and the rest of the men were taken prisoner.

    President Wilson asked Congress to declare war on Germany to make the world a better place for democracy, and Congress accepted his request. Wilson did this because he heard of Germany allegedly wanting to ally with Mexico, so he took action.

    The Allied powers consulted the situation, and asked for Germany to pay for reparations, and accepted it only if the Dawes and Young Plan were passed through. They were eventually canceled.

    In his speech he talks about settling the "Jewish problem" and says he wants to annihilate the Jewish race. He says that the Jews were to blame for WWII and allies his people against them.

    Canada declared war on Germany, and aided the French and British in their fight with the Nazis. They allowed only volunteers to go fight overseas, as they only had 4500 men in their army.

     Nazis invade France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands
    Germany sent 136 divisions into Holland and Belgium, and as they tried to deal with that they had another 2500 aircrafts bombing airfields. Another 16000 parachuted into Rotterdam and The Hague. Belgium surrendered as they were outnumbered.

    The US originally planned on staying out of the second WW, but once the Japanese attacked a naval base in Hawaii, they had no choice but to intervene. 2000 American soldiers died and 1000 were wounded. After the first bombing Roosevelt declared war on Japan, and right after that Japan allies with Germany.

    Germany surrenders and the US drops atomic bomb
    On May 7, 1945 Germany signed a surrender at the Allied headquarters in Reims France, thus ending WWII. The USA, in order to end the war with Japan, dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima killing over 100,000 people. Japan still didn't surrender, so they dropped another one on Nagasaki that killed more than 60,000 people. Japan surrendered on September 2, 1945.
