    The japanese army murdered thousands of soldiers and civilians in Nanjing, China. This happened because the Japanese claimed that they were fired on by Chinese troops at the Marco Polo Bridge near Beijing. 200,00 - 300,000 people died.

    Rape of Nanking
    Japanese general Matsui Iwane ordered the city of Nanking to be destroyed. The japanese butchered 150,000 war prisoners and killed an additional 50,000 men. They raped atleast 20,000 women and girls at any age were mutilated or killed.

    Hitler launched army in an invasion on the Soviet Union. three great army groups with over three million German soldiers, 150 divisions, and three thousand tanks smashed across the frontier into Soviet territory. Barbarossa was the crucial turning point in World War II, for its failure forced Nazi Germany to fight a two-front war against a coalition possessing immensely superior resources.

    Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The Japanese managed to destroy nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight enormous battleships, and almost 200 airplanes. More than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and another 1,000 were wounded. President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan.
