Invasion of Poland
Hitler wanted germans to live in Poland so he organized a surprise attack by joining forces with the Soviet Union and the Slovac Republic, this attack started world war two and, even though Poland never surrendered, marked the end of the Second Polish Republic. The nazis considered Polish people inferior and thought their only use was to work.During the invasion nazis killed 5.5 million Polish people, around 3 million of them were jews. -
Nazis invade Norway and Denmark
Using “Operation Weserübung“ the nazis invaded Denmark, which surrendered instantly and after that used the country as an operation base to invade Norway, which resisted for two months. Later they used both countries to build bases around their coasts and attack Great Britain. -
Beginning of the Blitz.
The blitz was a German campaign to bomb Britain and it lasted eight months. The main targets were London, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol, and any major city. There were 23 thousand deaths. -
United States declares war on Japan
After the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the president of The United States, F. D. Roosevelt, gave the “Day of Infamy” speech declaring war in Japan. -
Battle of El Alamein
The battle happened in Egypt and it was from the Western campaign. The German and Italian forces were fighting against the British Empire. This was the battle that turned around the North African campaign after the allied forces won (the British Empire). -
Allied invasion of Sicily
In August Birtish troops arrived in Sicily and months later they took control of it and deposed Benito Mussolini, enabling Marshall Pietro Badoglio to form a new government. -
D-day
It was a large amphibious invasion that used land air and sea forces, its objective was to liberate Europe and defeat Germany. The attack was on the beaches of Normandy, France. -
Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
The United States bombed the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to force Japan to surrender quickly and reduce American casualties. The bombings were also used as an experiment in a new kind of warfare (atomic bombings) which wasn’t completely understood then.
