Japanese Invasion of China
The Japanese Invasion of China is pretty self explanatory. In December the Japanese led an attack on Nanking in China with just too much power leaving China to flee. This happened simply because China wasn't very strong at the time and Japan just believed they had to take over as much land as they could to be stronger and ready for war. Japan attacking China lead to China having bad economic problems. Also the insane amount of deaths in China really just left China helpless. -
German Blitzkreig
Blitzkreig, meaning "lightning war" was a way of attacking the enemy by using fast methods of destruction. The germans invaded Poland using armoured tanks and air support to do quick and unfixable damage on their opponent. The reason for this was for Germany to get back their lost territory from the first world war. The affect of the invasion on Poland resulted in the start of world war two. https://www.history.com/topics/world-war-ii/blitzkrieg -
Fall of Paris
Fall of Paris began when Germany invaded France leaving tons of of the French to flee Paris. This happened so that Germany wouldn't be fighting in a two front war. This means that Hitler and the Germans wanted to quickly defeat France so that they could be ready to fight against the Soviet Union. This actually left France in a bad spot as Germany started to take over Paris. https://www.theguardian.com/world/1940/jun/15/secondworldwar.france

Pearl Harbor
The Japanese attack was an unexpected air attack on the US naval base in Hawaii. The US stopped trading with Japan which led Japan without important needs like steel and aviation fuel. Japan wanted two things one being trading to open up again and the other was more land to be ready for war. When the Japanese began preparing for war they thought the US might get in their way so that's when they decided to attack. The US lost tons of ships and had and estimated 2400 killed. They joined the war. -
Wannsee Conference
The conference was held to determine what the Nazi's would do with the Jew's. It was going to be the "final solution to the Jewish question." The Jewish question being what to do with them. It lead to the extermination of around 6.3 million Jewish people. https://www.britannica.com/event/Wannsee-Conference -

Operation Thunderclap
Operation Thunderclap was a plan that was brought up by the Allied Forces to bomb Germany's eastern cities. The point of this operation was to do more damage than they had already done to Germany in which it was also the spot it would hurt them the most. Even though these were the intentions there were really no affects to this because the Allied Forces did not take up on this plan. http://ww2today.com/13-february-1945-operation-thunderclap-raf-start-firestorm-in-dresden -
VE Day
VE day, Victory in Europe Day was the day that the Allied Forces had defeated Germany in Europe forcing them to surrender for good. This is celebrated because Germany would know longer be in control over Europe and the war was over for the Europeans. This was truly a great day for millions of people. So many people had benefited from the Germans defeat. For example all the Jewish survivors from concentration camps that were saved after Germany's defeat. -
Liberation of concentration camps
Truly another great day in history. Around the time of Germany's defeat in World War two, there had been survivors at concentration camps. British and United States had liberated many of these camps saving many Jewish lives. Even though liberating the concentration camps was great because many Jewish people were saved, it wasn't really ideal. Ton's of people that were involved in the holocaust today suffer from ptsd, anxiety, and depression. -
Battle of the Bulge
The Battle of Bulge was Hitler's last attempt at trying to keep his nation and people alive. It was a Battle between the Germans and the Allied Forces. Hitlers plan was to try and split up the forces on their way to defeat Germany. Hitler's plan to split up the forces didn't end up working leaving the Allied Forces with victory. The affect of the battle is that Germany didn't succeed in their last attempt to win the war which was most likely a good thing. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
The Battle of Iwo Jima lasted from February 19th to March 16th and was a battle between the Japanese and United States on the island of Iwo Jima. The US attacked because "the allied forces wanted to launch an aerial campaign against Japanese forces, and they needed the island because of its landing fields, which they wanted to use for bombers and fighter planes. This was one of the bloodiest battles in history and was a costly victory for the United States. -
Dropping of the atomic bombs
The dropping of the atomic bombs took place in Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the US. August 6th was the day the first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Three days after Hiroshima the second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. The US intended on crushing Japan so that they would be forced to surrender. Potsdam Declaration
With the European part of the war being over Japan was still at war with the US on the Pacific. Potsdam Declaration was a meeting formed by the Allied Forces in Potsdam, Germany. The meeting was determined to get Japan to surrender peacefully in the war. When the Allied Forces gave off their terms the Japanese didn't seem to quite take it seriously and didn't really take up on anything that happened at the meeting. The Japanese should of agreed but instead they would face destruction later on. -
