    Carl Vinson
    Carl Vinson was born on November 18, 1883 in Baldwin County. He got into the Congress in 1914 at the age of 31. Before WWll started, he helped improve the aviation of the planes for the Navy. He helped U.S have all the supplies the soldiers needed in battle. His bills are credited by helping the United States bulid more ships quickly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. One of his most famous sayings are "The most expensive thing the world is a cheap army and navy."
  • Richard Russell

    Richard Russell
    Ricahrd Russell was born on November 2, 1897 in Winder, Georgia. In 1933, Russell was elected as the youngest member and strongest supporter of presidential candidate FDR. While WWll was going on, Russeel was appointed on the Naval Affair Committee. During WWll, he led a committe with five senators from around the world. They would visit war threaters and report status of the American troops in battle. During these visits, Russell expanded his views on national defense.

    Holocaust was a a time period of discrimanation of jews. Hitler blamed all his problems on the jews. He formed a group called the Nazis who tortured and killed jews. Jews were taken to terrible camps called concentration camps where they lived in terrible circumstances. They were forced to do horrible jobs and barely got any food. The Nazis would kill every jew who won't do what they were told to do. In this time period, Hitler and the Nazis killed over 5 millions jews.

    World War ll broke out in Poland. Germany invades Poland becuase Germans considered Poland as "living space" for germans to live. Since France and Great Britian are allies with Poland, they considered Germany a threat and delared war on Germany on September 3, 1939.

    President FDR annouced Brunswick as one of the sixteen ports chosen to construct cargo vessels that would id the Allied powers while they were fighting in Europe in January of 1941. The Brunswick shipyards had 16,000 constructers who constructed about 99 ships for war effort from 1941-1945. These constructers were capable of loading thousands of tons of cargo across teh Atlantic Ocean to the people who fighting in the war.

    The means that United States was providing military aid to foreign nations during WWll. This act/program was created so that U.S was permitted to transport military goods to China, Great Britian, Soviet Union, and other countries without actually being in war. It also authorized the president to transfer armed goods and other defense materials that would be used it war. Futhermore, this act was to promote the defense of the United States.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the naval base at Pearl Habor near the coast of Honolulu, Hawaii. The Japanese nealy destroyed 20 American naval vessels, including eight really big battleships, and killing/wounding many soldiers and saliors. President declared war on Japan, and three days later, Japan declared war on the United States. The attack on Pearl Harbor made the United States enter WWll as an ally power.

    Bell Aircraft is a corparation that built fighter planes for the United States during World War ll. The first fighter plane that was used in WW2 was called B-2, and it was usd by the United States. The construction to build the fighter planes was located in Marietta, Georgia. Presdient FDR decided to put the Bell Bomber location because they needed to construct more planes and bombs since Japanese fired their naval base, Pearl Harbor.
  • Savannah Shipyard

    Savannah Shipyard
    Savannah was another site chosen in Georgia for the Liberty Ship constuction. The contract was given to the Southeastern Shiobuilding corporation. This corporation bulit 88 ships for war efforts from 1942-1945. They bulit these ships on the site of the Savannah River, which is just east of the city. These ships were later on used to transport goods/supplies that Untied States used in war to help them fight.

    The battle of Normandy lasted from June 1944 to August 1944. The battle began on June 6, 1944. This day was also known as D-Day. This was a day during World War ll where allied forces invaded Northern France by means of beach landings in Normandy. Allied powers invaded Normandy to fight the Germans.

    The Yalta Conference was the second wartime meeting of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin, and United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt. In this conference, the three leaders demanded Germany's unconditional surrender, and plans for the post-war. Stain also agreed to permit free elections in Eastern Europe and to enter the Asian War against Japan.

    Adolf Hitler was the chancellor of Germany during WW2. He was reason why so many innocent jews were killed in the Holocaust. He was also the reason why WW2 started when Geramany invaded Poland. Hitler died on April 30, 1945 because he killed himself and his wife drank prison which killed her too. He killed himself because the allied powers had almost defeated his side which were Japan, Italy, and Germany.

    Bomb dropped on Hiroshima
    On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped their first atomic bomb in the city of Hiroshima, Japan. Hiroshima was one of the supply deports for the Japan's army. The atomic bomb dropped was an uranium-gun type, and it was called Litlle Boy. About 80,000 people were killed,a nd more 350,000 people were injured from the atomic bomb. This bomb destroyed the whole city of Hiroshima.

    Bomb dropped on Nagasaki
    Three days after the terrible atomic bomb hit Hiroshima, The United States hit another atmoic bomb on the city of Nagasaki. This atomic was a pluotnium type and was called the Fat Man. Nagasaki was a shipbuilding center for Japan. This atomic bomb killed more than 60,000 people and injured many more. After the bombing on Nagasaki, Japan's empreror, Hirohito, finallly surrendered to the allied powers on August 14, 1945, which later became known as VJ-day or Victory in Japan Day.

    VJ-Day stands for Victory in Japan Day. After the president of the United States, Harry S. Truman, planned to drop atomic bombs in Japan, the empreror of Japan, Hirohito, surrendered on August 14, 1945. Since the war was over, people in Japan wanted to celebrate the ending of World War ll, so they considered this day to be VJ-day. Since so many people died because of war, people in Japan were really happy that war was over.
  • United Nations is formed

    United Nations is formed
    United Nations is an intergovernemental organization established on October 24, 1945 to promote international co-operation. This organization was formed after World War ll to prevent another terrible war from occuring. Representatives from 50 different countries came to San Fransico to complete the United Nations. United Nation existed on October 24, 1945 when 29 ratified the Charter.
