    HIs family has reigned for many years. His father was Shah Jahan. He has also had three sons in his lifetime: Bahudar Shah I, Azam Shah, and Muhammad Kam Bashh.

    After an unsuccessful battle by Shah Jahan, Aurangzeb and Dara were held as hostages under Nur Jahan at his grandfather's court in Lahore.

    After Aurangzeb moved back home his father followed closely to the Mughal traditions. In 1634 he became Governor of Deccan. Then moved to Kirki renaming it Aurangabad.

    Married Rabia Durrani. During this era the Deccan were peaceful. Even though in court Shah Jahan showed favor towards the eldest son Dara.

    Aurangzeb had attacked Golconda and Bijapur. He took control of three Bijapur forts that used to belong to his father. Except the Martha's and leader Shivaji had lead an attack against the Bijapur. Then this little, poorly equiped army transformed into a powerful army.

    He began to permit and pushed toward the defacement of Hinduism. In 1668 Hindu religious fairs were outlawed. In 1674 some Hindu land was confiscated.

    Dara had tried to gain control over the empire. For his actions Aurangzeb had arranged for a coronation in Dehli for Dara. He had Dara march back into Dehli in chains, and then executed.
  • Imperial Mosque

    Aurangzeb had the Badshahi Mosque constructed. It was constructed under the supervision of Fida'i Koka. This mosque is one the last in the series of great congregational mosques made out of red sandstone.
  • Shivaji

    Shivaji had returned to Deccan then ran out the Mughal armies, and was crowned king of the Martha Confederacy. Aurangzeb had kept sending troops against Shivaji. Shivaji continued to expand control through out Deccan until he died in 1680.

    Aurangzeb had completely alienated the Rajput element of the empire. He had re-imposed the jizya, a poll tax on non-muslims that had been abolished by Akbar.
