    Ribbentrop/Molotov Pact
    It was a nonaggression pact between Germany and the Soviet Union which happened not long before the war had started. German chancellor Adolf Hitler used the pact to make sure Germany was able to invade Poland unopposed. Stalin hoped to keep the Soviet Union at peace with Germany and to gain time to build up the Soviet military establishment. Later Hitler broke the agreement and was deemed untrustworthy to keep his promises.

    It means "Lightning War" In German. It was used to create disorganization within enemy forces and the effect was the prevention of deadlock in World War I. The thought was that this tactic could be more useful with modern tech. In a Blitzkrieg operation during this time, its best described as something to explain a complex structure of events and ideas.

    A battle with British and German air forces fighting in the sky. Germany wanted to expose Great Britain who could then control ports in France by the English channel. The British had a successful defense against German air raids and became a big turning point for WW2. It ended when a German general failed to gain air superiority. This victory by Britain saved them from a German land invasion and the overall survival of their country in the war.

    Pearl Harbor
    This was an attack by Japanese forces on a U.S. Naval base in Hawaii using fighter planes. There were few thousand deaths and casualties. This caused the them to go to war. Before this, the U.S. was unhappy with the way Japan was treating China thinking, that the only way to solve its economic problems was to take over China and their import territory (History). This made the U.S. do trade and embargo to combat this which caused Japan to become even more confident.

    A code name for the German invasion of the Soviet Union. The Germans failed to take them over and suffered a huge loss and put a turning point in the war. "Following the Soviet occupation of the Baltic states and of Bessarabia and northern Bukovina in June 1940, which put Soviet forces in proximity to the Romanian oil fields on which Germany depended, Hitler’s long-standing interest in overthrowing the Soviet regime was heightened."

    A very important naval battle where the U.S. defeated Japan. According to History.com, "the United States was able to preempt and counter Japan’s planned ambush of its few remaining aircraft carriers, inflicting permanent damage on the Japanese Navy." This then in turn allowed the U.S. to start an offensive position. This was all because the Attack of Pearl Harbor when Japan lost and still wanted to get back at the U.S. This also became a turning point in the war.

    After the U.S. surrender of the Bataan Peninsula on the main Philippine island of Luzon to the Japanese during World War II, the Filipino and American troops on Bataan were forced to make a 65-mile march to prison camps as prisoners of war. They made the trek in intense heat and had harsh treatment by Japanese guards. Thousands died in what became known as the Bataan Death March.

The win for Britain heartened many who were attacked in the German bombing.
