German Invasion of Poland
Using the blitzkreig strategy, the Germans, swept through and took Poland. The Polish were underarmed and the Germans wanted to take back there land and expand the country. Poland was an easy target. Germany now had control of Poland and expanded the axis powers. -
German Blitzkreig
The Germans would come in with fast waves of tanks, planes and soldiers. It was quick. The Germans needed an effiecient strategy and they were well armed, so this is what they came up with. The Germans were then able to take almost any country that stood in there way. -
Pearl Harbor
Japanese fighter planes came into the U.S.(Hawaii) and bombed Pearl Harbor. The Japanese were upset with the U.S. for cuttong off oil and being on the allied side in war. The U.S. harbor was destroyed and we entered WWII. -
Battle of Midway
After Pearl Harbor, the Japanese attacked the U.S once more with their remaining aircraft. The Japanese planned to attack the remaining U.S aircraft carriers but they failed and the U.S was put on the offensive position -
D-Day
The U.S./Allied forces invaded German controlled Normandy and successfully invaded Europe. The reason was that the U.S needed to come through frrance in order to invade Germany and stop the Nazi regime. The was finally in Europe and was able to push into Gemany. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
The U.S invaded the Islands and the U.S used the marine divisions for the invasions. The U.S needed a base near the Japanese coast. The invasion was a success and the U.S was able to set up there base on Iwo Jima -
The Battle of Okinawa
It was the last pacific battlle of the war, instead of defending at the edge of their country, the Japanese kamikaze dive bombers. The U.S needed to continue to push their way into Japan this way they could take the rest of the country and end the war. The U.S eventually took Okinawa but suffered many casualties. -
VE Day
It was the day that Nazi Germnay unconditionally surrendered its armed forces.The Allied powers had almost completely taken Europe back and were closing in on the last Axis powers. Cities put out flags and banners and the nazis were finally defeated. -
Postdam Declaration
It was a statement that called for the surrender of all Japanese armed forces. The U.S wanted a speedy end to the war or Japan would suffer massive destruction. The Japanese rejected the surrender,therefore, the U.S. dropped the atomic bombs. -
Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
The U.S dropped a 5 ton bomb over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They wanted to bring the war to a speedy end with minimal U.S casualties. After both bombs were dropped Japan surrendered. Many buildings were destroyed and many civilians were killed. -
VJ Day
The Japanese announced their surrender. After the atomic bomb, they were left with no choice. At this point, WWII was basically over. -
Battle of the Bulge
The Germans attempted to split Northwest Europe with the rest of the allied armies. The Germans wanted to secure vital bridgeheads and cut off allies. In the end the allies managed to defend and neutralized the counter offense.
